Boys held after machete seized and PC attacked
Getty ImagesTwo boys have been arrested after drugs and a machete were seized during a police patrol in Birmingham.
Officers carried out patrols as part of Operation Fearless when they stopped and searched a 15 and 16-year-old on Sutton New Road, Erdington, on Tuesday.
During the search, one officer was assaulted but not seriously injured, West Midlands Police said. A machete, suspected Class A and B drugs and items linked to drug dealing were recovered at the scene.
The 16-year-old, who cannot be named due to his age, was later charged with possession of a blade and assaulting an emergency worker. He is due to appear in court later this month.
Police said the activity formed part of increased patrols under Operation Fearless, which had recently stepped up its presence in Erdington following its launch in the area last year.
The operation aimed to tackle violence and drug related crime and provide reassurance to the local community, the force added.
