Police dispersal order ahead of Reading v Cardiff

A dispersal order, officers on horseback and bicycles along with police dogs and drones will be in place for the Reading v Cardiff City match as a measure to prevent any disorder.

Thames Valley Police said the tactics were being used to keep fans and local communities safe.

A Section 35 order, giving officers powers to disperse people from a set area, will come in for 12 hours from 08:00 BST until 20:00 on Saturday in Reading ahead of the League One fixture at 15:00.

The order covers streets and roads around the Select Car Leasing Stadium and the town centre including, Reading railway station.

Ch Insp Dave Washington, tactical commander for the match, said: "We want fans to enjoy the match, support their team and return home safely, but antisocial behaviour and disorder will not be tolerated.

"While the vast majority of supporters behave responsibly, we will take firm action against anyone intent on causing disorder, including arrests and football banning orders.

"If you are coming to the match, please say hello to our officers and speak to police, staff or stewards on the day if you have any concerns."

Select Car Leasing Stadium dispersal area: The A33, Longwater Drive, Flagstaff Road, Green Park Railway Station and South Oak Way.

Reading town centre dispersal area: Caversham Road, Richfield Avenue, Cow Lane, Beresford Road, Western Elms Avenue, Tilehurst Road, Bath Road, Southampton Street, London Road, Watlington Street, Forbury Road and Western Road, including Reading railway station.
