A man is in police custody after being arrested on suspicion of rape as part of an investigation into a serious sexual assault.

Avon and Somerset Police are investigating the rape of a woman in Assembly Rooms Lane area of Bristol at approximately 03:05 BST on 29 March.

Two other men have been released under investigation, and police said they are continuing high-visibility patrols this weekend, with people able to approach officers with concerns.

Det Insp Christian Vogler said: "The victim remains our main priority and we are working hard to try and provide her with answers about what happened and hold those responsible to account."

"We continue to provide her with the support she needs and update her on the progress of our enquiries," he added.

Vogler asked that people not speculate online, as it could impact the investigation.
