A man has been charged with attempted murder after a woman was found injured inside a house in Nottinghamshire.

Officers were called to Bley Avenue in East Leake at 16:29 BST on Tuesday after reports a woman had suffered serious injuries.

Nottinghamshire Police said the woman - in her late 20s - remained in hospital in a critical condition.

Shaquel Kerr, 30, of Pamela Road in Birmingham, has been charged with attempted murder. He remains in custody and is due to appear at Nottingham Magistrates' Court on Thursday.

Det Ch Insp Les Charlton, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: "This was an isolated incident inside a home, but we understand residents in the area may have been concerned by the police presence.

"I hope they are reassured by our investigation, which has now seen a suspect placed before the courts at the earliest opportunity."
