Murder arrests after man hit by car dies

Two people have been arrested on suspicion of murder after a pedestrian was hit by a car near Barnsley on Friday evening.

The 45-year-old man died at the scene after he was struck by a white Volkswagen Touareg on Rose Tree Avenue in Cudworth at about 16:55 BST on Friday, police said.

A 60-year-old man and a 38-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of murder and remain in custody.

Det Ch Insp Simon Cartwright said Rose Tree Avenue would remain closed as investigations continued and urged anyone with information to contact South Yorkshire Police.

He said: "Our investigation into this tragic incident is still in its early stages and our thoughts first and foremost are with the victim's family, friends and loved ones."
