A man has been charged over the death of an 82-year-old woman found fatally injured in the street in Glasgow at the weekend.

Elizabeth Colligan died at the scene on Cardowan Road in the city's Carntyne area in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Police said a 30-year-old man, who BBC Scotland understands to be her grandson Grant McKinnon, is due to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court later.

Colligan, a local lollipop lady known as Betty, was described as a "nice wee lady" by neighbours on Cardowan Road.

Pictures posted on social media on Tuesday showed several police officers on Cardowan Road leading a man to police van.

Det Ch Insp David Lamont said: "Our thoughts remain with Elizabeth's family and friends during this very difficult time.

"We would like to thank the local community for their support while our investigation has been ongoing."
