Motorists warned of disruption during upgrade
Leeds City CouncilMotorists have been warned of travel disruption as new images were released showing how a busy junction between Bradford and Leeds will look once roadworks are complete.
Work began in May 2025 to upgrade the junction at Dawsons Corner, which connects the A647 Stanningley Road and the A6120 Ring Road, and is scheduled to be completed early next year.
Leeds City Council warned of road closures and diversions between Friday 24 April and Monday 27 April due to a "major phase" of the project taking place.
Deputy leader Jonathan Pryor said the need to improve the junction was "a major priority".
He added: "It's important not only to improve traffic flow and air quality, but also to support essential links to future housing growth and developments, and for people to be able to access jobs more easily with consistent travel times."
A council spokesperson said about 57,000 vehicles and 1,200 pedestrians and cyclists travelled through the junction every day, "highlighting the need for long-term improvements".
The work in April will see the B6157 Bradford Road closed eastbound from 20 to 24 April in the run-up to the weekend.
There will be a full closure of the B6157 over the weekend, along with the A6120 Ring Road.
Two-way traffic routes will remain open on the A647 Bradford Road and Stanningley Bypass.
Access will be maintained to New Pudsey railway station and the Owlcotes Shopping Centre.
Pryor said the work was "progressing to the planned schedule".
