Bid to find man who helped officers under attack
Getty ImagesWest Yorkshire Police have appealed for help to trace a "public-spirited" man who came to the aid of two officers who were being assaulted.
The force said the unknown male stepped in when an officer and a PCSO were subjected to a "serious assault" in Market Street, Halifax, on Thursday.
A spokesperson said the man had come to intervene and restrained the suspect while officers arrested him.
Supt Allan Raw said: "I wish to pay my personal thanks to the member of the public who showed great public spirit in intervening to assist our officers. He left before we could get his details at the scene, but I would urge him to make contact with us so we can thank him in person."
The force said the police officer suffered facial injuries during the incident, and required hospital treatment, while the PCSO suffered a wrist injury.
A 39-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assaulting emergency workers.
Raw added: "Assaults on all blue light emergency workers are treated extremely seriously and we are fully investigating the circumstances of what took place.
"Anyone who saw or has information about the incident is asked to contact Calderdale Police."
