A nine-year-old child has been left "shaken" and with minor injuries after being hit by an electric motorbike.

The motorbike crashed into the child, who was riding a pedal bike, at about 16:50 GMT on Thursday on Imperial Avenue in Thornaby, Cleveland Police said.

The force said the motorbike rider, who came from the direction of Diamond Road, rode off towards Sandringham Road.

Temporary Insp Laura Black said: "Everyone has the right to feel safe in their communities and we will do all we can to investigate this incident and take appropriate action."

She asked anyone with information to contact the force.
