One of Jersey's brightest young minds has picked up a major award after impressing judges with his take on the global economy.

Hubert Libich won the Colin Powell Award 2025, presented by the Minister for Economic Development Kirsten Morel, after his essay stood out in the Future Economist Essay Competition.

Judges praised his clear writing on trade, inflation and growth, and his ability to link economics with politics and history.

Morel said it was "inspiring to see such maturity of thought from the next generation" and the essay was one of "many outstanding submissions".

Chief economic advisor Tom Holvey said entries had revealed an "impressive breadth of budding future economists".

"This year's submissions were exceptionally well‑researched, insightful and thought‑provoking," he said.

"Jersey is fortunate to have such keen young minds, individuals who will no doubt play a vital role in tackling the Island's future economic challenges."
