Caution urged around reservoirs over Easter break
Yorkshire WaterVisitors to Yorkshire Water's reservoirs are being urged to keep themselves and local wildlife safe over the Easter weekend and May Bank Holidays.
People are asked to remember to take litter home, keep dogs on leads and not use disposable barbecues in order to keep animals and the natural environment safe.
Disposable barbecues are not permitted on any of the company's 34 sites, with some covered by Public Space Protection Orders, meaning people could face fines.
Alastair Harvey, lead countryside and woodland adviser for Yorkshire Water, said: "We work hard to make the sites accessible and enjoyable for all visitors and it's important people visiting leave the sites as they would like to find them."
He added: "To protect ground-nesting birds and new lambs it's important dogs are kept under control on leads."
Ranger teams will be on duty throughout the spring and summer engaging with members of the public, providing information about the sites and encouraging people to follow the Countryside Code.
Yorkshire WaterHarvey also warned people against entering the water.
"Swimming and unauthorised water sports are not permitted at our reservoirs and we would urge people to always remain vigilant around the water and keep an eye on children to reduce the potential for accidents and injury, he said.
Yorkshire Water urged people to call 999 and ask for the Fire Service if they spot a fire or someone in the water who requires help.
