Council backs parking restrictions near schools
GoogleCouncillors have backed plans for parking restrictions near two primary schools in Lincolnshire.
At a meeting on Monday, Lincolnshire County Council heard that Bourne Westfield Primary Academy had raised concerns that safety zone markings were being ignored.
It also heard some drivers were parking at junctions and at a bend near Bourne Elsea Park Primary Academy.
Members of the council's planning and regulation committee suggested 24-hour parking restrictions be implemented in areas near both schools.
Council officials said street parking near Bourne Westfield Primary Academy blocked visibility for pedestrians crossing roads and obstructed traffic flow.
'Chaos'
Loading and waiting restrictions have been recommended along Westbourne Park from its junction with West Street to just past the semi-circle in front of the school.
According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, these restrictions would be in place from 08:00 to 09:30 and 14:00 to 16:00 Monday to Friday.
Councillors also proposed 24-hour waiting restrictions be put in place on 10 junctions around Westbourne Park, Pinewood Close, Kingsley Avenue, Leofric Avenue, Forest Avenue and Godiva Crescent.
Councillor Martin Hill, who is in favour of the proposals, said: "It is chaos around here at school times."
Councillors also recommended a 24-hour parking restriction should be implemented on Sandown Drive, near Bourne Elsea Park Primary Academy.
Officials proposed a part-time restriction, which would be effective from 08:00 to 09:30 and 14:00 to 16:30, on the route into the school.
Councillor Kenneth Redfern said: "I have been to look at this area, with it being in my ward and it is very narrow, and at times, very busy.
"I think what has been proposed is more than adequate for this situation."
The executive councillor for highways and transport will make a final decision about the plans at a later date.
