Man arrested on suspicion of murdering Ellis Cox
Family handoutA man has been arrested at an airport on suspicion of murdering a man who was shot in the back on an industrial estate two years ago.
Ellis Cox, 19, was shot on the Liver Industrial Estate in Aintree, Merseyside, in June 2024.
A 19-year-old man from Maghull was arrested at Liverpool John Lennon Airport earlier after arriving on a flight from Spain, Merseyside Police said.
It marks the seventh arrest in the case. Six men have previously been arrested on suspicion of murder and subsequently bailed.
The man is being held in custody to be questioned by detectives.
Police believe Cox was shot with a self-loading pistol as he went through the industrial estate after going to Southport with friends.
His mother Carolyn Cox previously told how her son had called her shortly before he was shot, telling her he would be "home in five minutes".
In a tribute, his family said he was "loved and adored" and "fiercely loyal".
Earlier this month, his family doubled a £20,000 Crimestoppers reward for information.
Det Ch Insp Steve McGrath said his investigation team remained as "determined as ever", adding that "time is no barrier to our relentless pursuit of all those involved" in the killing.
He urged anybody with information about the shooting to "search your conscience".
"The smallest detail could be vital to our inquiries," he added.
