Repairs to steps that lead down to a Guernsey south coast beach are taking longer than initially planned.

The States of Guernsey said it was hoped the Petit Port steps would reopen at the end of April after it was closed on 2 March for maintenance work.

The government said additional works had been found when the new rock catcher mesh was being restored and fencing repaired.

While the works had initially been set to last for five weeks, the government said it anticipated the steps would be open by the end of April, ahead of the summer.
