Two men have appeared in court accused of being involved in serious organised crime after a series of police raids in Scotland and Spain.

Scott Lawlor, 38, and Peter Hetherington, 39, made no plea at Glasgow Sheriff Court during a private hearing.

Lawlor, of Erskine, Renfrewshire, is also accused of an assault to injury and two charges of conspiracy.

Hetherington, of Milton in Glasgow, faces two further charges of being concerned in the supply of drugs.

Eight people were arrested in Scotland during the dawn raids on Friday

The court appearances came after 13 people were arrested in pre-dawn raids on Friday.

Properties in Scotland and Spain were targeted by law enforcement officers investigating a suspected drug trafficking network.

The joint Scottish-Spanish operation targeted properties in Bellshill, Glasgow, Gartcosh, Whitburn, Caldercruix, Cumbernauld, Coatbridge, Barcelona and in the Malaga area.

Officers in Turkey seized two plots of land and a villa estimated to be worth about €600,000 (£520,000), as well as shares in a company.

Officers made eight arrests in Scotland and five in Spain.

Hetherington and Hetherington were committed for further examination by Sheriff Patrick Hughes.

Lawlor was remanded in custody while Hetherington was granted bail.

Lawlor will appear at court again within the next eight days while Hetherington's date is to be determined.
