A new splash pad is due to open in Worcestershire as part of a £550,000 project.

The scheme at Lido Park in Droitwich has seen the water play area moved to a site near the tennis courts to support the expansion of the lido, according to Wychavon District Council.

A spokesperson for the authority said it would provide a "modern, vibrant space for families to enjoy" when it opens on 3 April.

It is due to open daily from 10:00 until 18:00 BST until September, weather permitting.

In a post on social media, the authority said: "We are listening to feedback from some residents about the lack of fencing around the new Lido Park water play.

"We will run a public consultation in the summer on the issue of fencing around all three of the district's water play areas."

The council said the old water play area, which opened in 2011, was "past its best" as it frequently broke down and was costly to repair.

"This investment ensures we won't face long outages during the summer months," the authority said.

New water play areas have also been installed in Evesham and Pershore in recent years. These are due to open on 10 April.

"The new water plays in Evesham and Pershore have proved tremendously popular and I am delighted it is now Droitwich Spa's turn," said councillor Beverley Hardman.
