Hull Central Library to undergo £200k revamp
Hull City CouncilA £200,000 revamp will help transform Hull Central Library into a "space to inspire", the council says.
Hull Central Library has been awarded £203,175 by Arts Council England on behalf of the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, Hull City Council said.
It will feature a new themed café, a sensory room and quiet spaces for adults with additional needs, while the children's library and meeting rooms will be upgraded.
Alexandra Ashwell, director of libraries for Hull Culture and Leisure Ltd, said: "This project will ensure our facilities are fit for the future and continue to serve as a supportive, creative heart for the city."
Hull Central Library is one of 16 cultural venues, museums and libraries in Yorkshire and the Humber to receive a share of £11m in government funding.
The money comes from the £1.5bn Arts Everywhere Fund, which aims to save more than 1,000 at-risk venues in England.
Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy said: "I want everyone, everywhere to feel a sense of pride about where they come from.
"Cultural organisations across Yorkshire and the Humber are important custodians of local identity and play a key role in the story we tell ourselves as a nation."
