A pedestrian has been taken to hospital after being hit by a bus near York city centre.

Yorkshire Ambulance Service was called to Gillygate at about 11:15 BST to reports of a collision.

A spokesperson said an ambulance, specialist paramedic and team leader had been sent to the scene and a patient was taken to York Hospital.

The main road, which is usually busy with city centre traffic, remains closed one way near its junction with Bootham and a First Bus single-decker vehicle is still at the scene.
