A new free car park is expected to open in Driffield next month.

The East Riding of Yorkshire Council-run facility, on the site of the old cattle market in Exchange Street, is due to open on 8 April.

It will replace the existing free car park on Eastgate, which will become home to an Aldi store.

It will have 100 parking bays, including spaces for electric vehicles.

The project has been funded by Aldi as part of a land exchange.

Paul West, the council's cabinet member for environment and transport, said: "We're delighted to be able to open this new free car park for the people of Driffield and visitors to the town, and to make use of a plot of land that has stood unused for so many years."

The supermarket is expected to open in the run-to Christmas.
