Minor injury unit returning to full week service

A minor injury unit is to reopen seven days a week, eight months after a decision to reduce its opening hours to ensure patient and staff safety.

Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust said it had "delivered on its commitment" to return the Launceston unit "to its core hours".

Alongside the minor injury unit at Launceston Community Hospital, x-ray services will also be available Sunday to Friday, 09:00 to 17:00 BST.

Hospital matron, Nicola Wilks said: "I am delighted to be able to open the minor injury unit seven days a week, and just in time for Easter too."

Wilks continued: "Catherine Bailey, minor injury unit sister and team have worked hard to get our seven-day service returned with recruitment and staff development."

Cornwall Councillor Damon Dennis added: "This is extremely positive news for residents and for the many people who rely on accessible healthcare services in the town and surrounding rural communities."

The trust said work had also been taking place "to consider how the collective resources in the town and wider community can be best used to support local people" .

Local resources available to help people with minor illnesses and injuries include three pharmacies, two opticians, the GP practice and health hub.

Local people can also use NHS 111's symptom checker or call 111 for support and advice, the trust advised.
