A busy road, which was closed as part of a major gas pipe repair operation, is due to be reopened.

A stretch of about two miles (3.2 km) of the A267 near Mayfield, East Sussex, has been closed since 16 February.

An SGN spokesperson said this was due to third party damage to its network in January which caused water to enter their pipes.

They say the A267 at Argos Hill is due to reopen on Thursday from 12:00 BST.

A temporary two-way traffic light will remain in place for about three weeks while contractors continue their work, SGN says.

"These lights are needed while we complete the decommissioning of the old metal gas pipework," the company said.

"We know this is a busy road so we'll have an operative in place from 07:00 BST to 19L00 to control the lights to help manage the traffic flow."

The SGN spokesperson says from 18:30 on Thursday, the B2101 Bicycle Arms Road will be closed at its junction with the A267 for about three weeks while engineers carry out the final installation and connection of the new plastic gas main.

They say signed diversion routes will be in place for affected motorists.

SGN said local Rotherfield bus routes will be affected during this phase of work.
