York moved back to the top of the National League with a hard-fought 1-0 win at Boston.
Stuart Maynard's team and promotion rivals Rochdale have swapped positions at multiple points in recent months, but a potentially decisive day in the title race took place on Good Friday.
With Rochdale stunned at home to relegation-threatened Morecambe, York were indebted to Ben Brookes' 48th-minute goal to earn a vital three points and send them to the summit on goal difference.
Chances were few and far between during an even first half but, with news filtering through that Morecambe were behind at the break, Maynard watched his promotion-chasing side start the second half at Boston in fine style.
Brookes broke the deadlock with an effort at the back post before York goalkeeper Harrison Male made several saves to help send the visitors top with four games left.
