Caylan Vickers and Joe Taylor scored the goals as Wigan beat Bradford 2-0 at the Brick Community Stadium – a result which has massive ramifications at both ends of League One.
Vickers, making his first start for Latics since joining on loan from Brighton in January, opened the scoring in the 20th minute after good work from Fraser Murray.
Bradford sent on former Wigan strikers Stephen Humphrys and Paul Mullin at half-time, and the duo almost combined for an equaliser at the beginning of the second half.
However, Mullin was unable to get a touch to Humphrys' clever flick back into the middle and Wigan escaped.
The home side took full advantage with a second goal 12 minutes from time.
Callum Wright helped the ball on to on-loan Huddersfield forward Taylor, who raced almost half the length of the field before rifling home into the bottom corner.
While fourth-placed Bradford lost ground at the top, Wigan are now three points clear of the relegation zone.
