Fleetwood, unbeaten in four matches, had to settle for a point against Newport
League Two's bottom side Newport County frustrated in-form Fleetwood Town with a stout rearguard performance as they held out for a point at Highbury Stadium.
The hosts dominated proceedings throughout with Newport grateful to goalkeeper Jordan Wright who kept Fleetwood at bay on a busy afternoon.
Finley Potter sent the first opening for the hosts off-target and Harrison Neal sliced over in a busy penalty box as the hosts started brightly.
Potter was booked for a foul on Newport striker Ben Lloyd before Fleetwood went close again shortly after half-an-hour with Ethan Ennis' effort coming back off the post.
Newport were under pressure as half-time approached and after Ched Evans had missed a chance, Wright was forced into action to save Elliot Bonds' close-range effort.
The hosts were well on top in the first half with 73% possession and 16 shots to Newport's two and Wright was again called into action early in the second period to deny Evans.
Wright saved again from Mark Helm to cap a fine individual performance and help Newport hold on for a draw which moves them within two points of safety while Fleetwood drop a place to 15th despite stretching their unbeaten run to four games.
