Pelle Mattsson gave Norwich the lead in the first half before scoring an own goal late on
Norwich midfielder Pelle Mattsson scored at both ends as his late own goal gave relegation-threatened Portsmouth a draw in the Championship.
Mattsson fired the Canaries ahead midway through the first half with an effort into the bottom left-hand corner for his second goal of the season.
But in the last few minutes he was responsible for Pompey's leveller as Andre Dozzell's free-kick was flicked on and Mattsson poked into his own net.
Portsmouth remain in danger of the drop having failed to win any of their past seven games, with five losses and two draws, and remain a point above the bottom three.
Meanwhile, Norwich's slim hopes of mounting a late play-off push appear to be over as they are nine point behind the top six with six matches remaining.
The Canaries nearly scored in spectacular fashion after 10 minutes when a header across goal fell to Mathias Kvistgaarden who produced an overhead kick that was narrowly diverted behind for a corner by Madiodio Dia.
A free-kick was later flashed across goal as Jacob Wright whipped a right-footed effort towards the back post from a narrow angle on the far side and it flew just wide of the target.
The hosts were rewarded for their fine start after 25 minutes when Mattsson picked up the ball on the edge of the box and was able to drive forward before finishing into the bottom left-hand corner with his right foot.
Portsmouth came close to equalising moments later when Marlon Pack's corner struck the frame of the goal and bounced into a dangerous area where Conor Chaplin then threw himself at the ball in an attempt to knock it home.
A scramble in the box followed but the home defence were able to clear the danger.
Pompey were able to gain more possession after the break and just before the hour mark had an appeal for a penalty waved away as the ball appeared to strike an arm from close range.
Portsmouth's equaliser eventually came from a free-kick won by Harvey Blair on the right.
Dozzell sent the ball into the box which was flicked on by Colby Bishop and the retreating Mattsson could only divert past his own goalkeeper.
Ali Ahmed had a late chance for the Canaries as he struck a volleyed effort on goal but his attempt was central and easily dealt with by Portsmouth keeper Nicolas Schmid.
'A big point' - Pompey reaction
Portsmouth boss John Mousinho told BBC Radio Solent:
"It feels like a bit point, the biggest thing for me today was the performance.
"After the QPR loss we were searching for answers and that was the lowest point of the season, to then go a goal down and respond like we did was really pleasing.
"We defended well and dug in when we needed to, Norwich have some very good players and we had to deal with those tough moments when they were on top.
"We were in the game when behind which was the most important thing, we weren't clinging on though and we were trying to be positive with the ball when we had it, I thought the subs did really well when they came on too."
'It's frustrating' - Norwich reaction
Norwich City boss Philippe Clement told BBC Radio Norfolk:
"It's frustrating indeed, we could have kept a clean sheet too which is an important thing.
"The team still reacted after going behind, someone said to me that this was a game we would have lost at the start of the season.
"The reaction was good from the players as they went for the second goal but if you don't score the second or third goal in this game then this can happen.
"It was a defensive game today and we should have won more duels, we have more things to work on in the next few weeks in those situations."
