Jesurun Rak-Sakyi scored his second goal for Stoke

Goals from Jesurun Rak-Sakyi and Lamine Cisse helped Stoke City to victory over Sheffield Wednesday at the bet365 Stadium.

Sorba Thomas was the hosts' standout man throughout, setting up the opener and playing a key role in the second.

It was a dominant performance overall, and they were hardly threatened by bottom side Wednesday.

The Potters remain in mid-table, 10 points off the play-offs, while Sheffield Wednesday have only won one of their 40 league games this season.

Stoke dominated from the off and could have gone in front when Bosun Lawal took aim from distance but fired wide.

After mounting pressure, though, they took the lead just after the half-hour mark through Rak-Sakyi's composed finish.

Thomas drove forward on the break and laid on a wonderful pass, giving the on-loan Crystal Palace man a simple task, but he took it well.

Rak-Sakyi almost had a second six minutes before half-time. He received the ball on the edge of the area and created space for himself, but Pierce Charles tipped his effort on to the post.

Stoke captain Steven Nzonzi squandered a great chance to double the lead shortly after the break when he met Thomas' cross, but he failed to test Charles who collected his effort with ease.

The hosts did make it 2-0 after 57 minutes and unsurprisingly, Thomas was involved. His cross was met by Eric Bocat's header, which Charles could only parry into Cisse's path.

With Gavin Bazunu making a couple of saves at the other end, substitute Bae Jun-ho really should have put the game beyond Wednesday. He met Bocat's through ball, but he blazed over the bar.

The result is unlikely to have much impact on either team's season, but Stoke did record a first clean sheet for nine games.

'We lacked fluency' - Stoke reaction

Stoke manager Mark Robins told BBC Radio Stoke:

"It was hard. You're on a hiding to nothing because people expect you to win and score a avalanche of goals. That hasn't happened.

"They've got lots of good players. They've lost some and gained some. Sheffield Wednesday are young and they've been through the mill in the past few seasons.

"We've had eight players to work with whilst others are injured, coming back or on international duty. Logistically it is tough; to get the game won like that was pleasing.

"We were nowhere near fluid throughout the game. We were at times, but we looked laboured in movement and passing."

'Two different halves' - Owls reaction

Sheffield Wednesday manager Henrik Pedersen told BBC Radio Sheffield:

"I think we had two different halves. First half, we defended well.

"We knew the first 15-20 minutes would be tough because Stoke are a team that is very good on the ball.

"We were organised and didn't concede any chances. We worked hard; we were not good enough or brave enough in transition.

"From the beginning of the second half we were brave, we played a really good game. We saw a lot of things that we did in training this week, but it was not enough."
