Blackburn Rovers picked up a huge three points with a win against promotion-hunting Millwall this afternoon.

Rovers boss Michael O'Neill told BBC Radio Lancashire after the match:

"It's been a challenging week. We knew it would be difficult [this afternoon].

"The early part didn't go as well as we'd planned but the reaction was very good.

"[It was] A big commitment from the players. We kept them down [south] between the games [following the defeat by Oxford United midweek] and the performance was excellent.

"Maybe I was a little hard on them on Wednesday, we weren't maybe as poor as I thought.

"It's difficult to play against teams with less men but we were good today and we showed real character and real quality to get the win."

Millwall manager Alex Neil speaking to BBC Radio London following his side's 2-1 defeat to Blackburn at The Den:

“The first half, we weren’t really as fluent as I’d like us to be. At half-time, I changed the shape. That allowed us to get better pressure, we looked more threatening and we took the lead, deservedly.

“We then had an unbelievable chance through Camiel [Neghli] to make it 2-0. If that happens, the game is probably put to bed.

“Then we have the incident with the sending off. I’ve watched it back and I didn’t feel as though it was a sending off. He was too far from goal, his touch took him away and we’ve got three recovering defenders.

“That was a poor decision and we then had two other chances before they got their first goal and they are really key moments.

“There were so many incidents in the game that if they work in your favour, you naturally come out with a positive result and too many of them, and some self-inflicted, were big, big calls in the game.”

Leicester manager Gary Rowett speaking to BBC Radio Leicester after his side's 3-1 loss at home to QPR:

“It was like Christmas morning if you’re QPR. We’ve given them three goals.

"I’m not taking anything away from their performance, they’ve world incredibly hard to stop us getting into good areas.

“We started quite brightly and got in good areas, played through the lines well culminating in a goal from JJ [Jordan James], a lovely pass through the lines and JJ takes it on the back foot and runs, really positive - maybe we have to do that more often.

“The goal we conceded just before half time was a stupid goal to concede. A player’s given time on the ball 60-yards away, sticks a ball over the top, we don’t track the runner and he nicks it round Jakub [Stolarczyk] and scores.

“I could talk about a million things in the game but we need to be better trying to break a team down, and if you conceded three goals in that manner, you’re not winning any game in the Championship.”

Birmingham City manager Chris Davies told BBC Radio WM after his team were held to a 1-1 draw by 10-man Sheffield United:

"Obviously there’s a frustration there because it is a game we felt we should win.

"I think we started pretty well, even up until they had the red card, and obviously get a goal straight from it and you think right, now we just need to keep pushing and try and get that second goal.

"So we concede a really sloppy goal just on the stroke of half time. It gives them something to hang on to, gives them a certain belief.

"Then it was just a case in the second half, could we score a goal?

"It was one-way traffic, obviously. We hit the bar and post a few times in the match, but fine margins, a few inches either way, and it goes in, and we win that game comfortably but we just didn’t do enough to score.”

Already-relegated Sheffield Wednesday succumbed to their 28th Championship defeat of the season, eventually losing 2-0 at home to Ipswich Town.

After the match, Owls boss Henrik Pedersen told BBC Radio Sheffield:

"It was a tough, tough game against a very strong opponent. Players for players, a strong, strong team and a fantastic manager.

"With this cocktail, we all knew this would be a big challenge today but I think we showed that the boys really tried.

"We worked into the game and we played a really strong first half.

"Second half, first 10 minutes we had some challenges to correct to the tactical changes. We had a difficult period up to the [first] goal."

Hull City boss Sergej Jakirovic told BBC Radio Humberside following his side's 3-0 defeat by West Bromwich Albion:

"I knew that they had quality and they are fighting relegation. They brought a lot of energy to the pitch and this is the reason we lost today.

"I think it's about energy and courage when you have the ball. They were better today.

"Also we had a lack of concentration. On the first goal, Ivor [Pandur] must kick the ball longer and the red card came from nothing, it was a bad from Charlie [Hughes]. It's football, it can happen.

On Lewie Coyle's injury: "I'm not optimistic for Coyle because he has a protective boot on.

"We'll see after an examination what the damage is. He got kicked on the same ankle he already had a problem on."

West Bromwich Albion claimed their first win of 2026 to climb out of the bottom three and interim manager James Morrison told BBC Final Score:

"I thought it was a top performance right from the start to the end. We gave Hull a difficult afternoon.

"It was another layer on what we'd done in the last two games. I felt like it was coming but you never know in football what you're going to get.

"We've got to be calm, it's just one game and we've got eight more to go.

"We've had frustrating times here throughout the season and I think the fans have enjoyed that today."

Watford head coach Ed Still told BBC Three Counties Radio:

“Gutted because there’s a little bit of the same feeling as there was after the Sheffield Wednesday game earlier this week, where we’ve started the game and had at least three huge opportunities there and come into the zones where we wanted to be, pulled the ball back to the zones we wanted to bring it back to.

“At this level, at any level, you need to be taking those chances to be one or two ahead and then the dynamic of the game changes completely.

“You put the opposition on the back foot, you’re able to set up and manage the game completely differently.

“Then also we’ve come out early in the second half and had another couple of really, really good chances, not just situations but actually real chances which we haven’t taken.”

Stoke City claimed a first win in four matches with a 3-1 victory against Watford:

After the match, Potters boss Mark Robins told BBC Radio Stoke:

"Honestly, I think the game was a tough game. It's a transition game, wasn't it? Because that's how they play.

"They're the best in the division by data and you can see why. You give the ball away, you commit bodies forward, they leave people up.

"If you don't get the quality or the connection or the goal, then they're a threat on the counter-attack. So we found that really difficult to deal with and gave up some chances early on in the game.

"But when we were good and we were good in possession and calm, we created our own opportunities."

It took until the 78th minute for promotion-chasing Ipswich Town to break the deadlock in their eventual 2-0 win at already relegated Sheffield Wednesday this afternoon.

Manager Kieran McKenna told BBC Radio Suffolk after the game:

"We would have loved to have got an early goal, and we know that would have changed the game.

"We really emphasise trying to start fast and come out and get it, but we didn't manage to do that.

"We didn't take the couple of early chances we had, and then as the game wears on, you can get a little bit tense.

"Then it’s about just staying disciplined and trying not to give anything away. It took to the later stages, we knew that might be the way and it was today.

"The bonus was we got a clean sheet, we didn't give much away, and we give ourselves a chance to show our quality with the goals at the end."

"I think it's a big point. We know what level Middlesbrough are on at the moment and I think this was a very disciplined performance.

"In the end it was well deserved because of the discipline and the effort.

"Our goalkeeper showed how important he is for us to pick up points.

"I had a feeling Adam [Randall] had jumped on a trampoline, he was so high. Tomi Horvat's delivery was outstanding.

"It's a release when you get results like we have had in the past few weeks. The point here has more value right now, [it's] like a win. It gives us a big push."

Middlesbrough dominated Bristol City at the Riverside but could not score a second goal to seal the three points and were then made to pay with Adam Randell's late equaliser.

Head coach Kim Hellberg told BBC Radio Tees:

"It's tough to lose two points in the last minute against a team that you are playing off the pitch for 90 minutes, but it's football.

"We should have killed the game off earlier, so it doesn't come down to those small margins. I'm proud of the performance but disappointed of the result.

On seven minutes of stoppage time: "Teams are coming here and they are not trying to play and then they add on seven minutes for a team that didn't want to play from the first minute.

"It's ridiculous. It is not the football we want. There was one minute added on in the first half. It makes no sense."

Southampton pulled off their best result of the season with a terrific 2-1 victory at league leaders Coventry City at lunchtime.

Saints are now 12 games unbeaten in all competitions and closed the gap to sixth-placed Wrexham back down to three points.

After the match, Saints boss Tonda Eckert told BBC Radio Solent:

"It’s not easy to come here, they have lost only once at home all season. We knew it would be tough, especially as it was the fourth game away from home on the bounce.

"Away from home you have some moments to overcome, but credit to the boys because they dug very deep and we had an excellent goalkeeper today.

"It should have been a clean sheet as well. As a club we are moving in the right direction and we need to keep our heads down and keep working as there are so many more steps to go still."

Coventry City suffered just a second home defeat of the season in their lunchtime loss to in-form Southampton.

After the game, head coach Frank Lampard told BBC Radio CWR:

"On a statistical basis, we shouldn’t lose the game because we created enough big chances to score three or four goals - we had five big chances in the game.

"In the first half, I think they wanted to slow the game down from the start and we bought into that a little bit. We normally have more energy in our game.

"We’re not happy with the goals we conceded. You can’t get that wrong because you won’t win games of football, and we weren't clinical at the top end.

"By our own standards, were we as good as we want to be? No, but that’s football at this stage of the season, you just want to try to get a result.

"We gave everything and we have to go again."

Charlton Athletic boss Nathan Jones told BBC Radio London:

"It's been an outstanding week. I mean, seven points from the week has been truly, truly outstanding.

"Today's performance was everything I didn't want because we said, they sit in, they don't press you, they sit in, and they've done West Brom and Blackburn here.

"It's obligatory, apparently, in the Championship, that you have to be a nice, passive footballing team.

"I didn't want us to do that and for about 70-odd minutes, we were a passive, typical bang-average Championship team. Then as soon as we started playing with any tempo and putting it on them and turning them and stretching them, we could have scored two or three.

"Finally we got our goal, so I'm pleased we got the point. But they have to listen. They have to listen to what we say."

After Charlton claimed a late equaliser with a penalty to leave Oxford United in the relegation zone, manager Matt Bloomfield told BBC Radio Oxford:

"Really disappointing to not be walking away with three points.

"We've waited so long to get a penalty and then we give one away on the same day so we're really disappointed with that.

"But I think we need to stay on an even keel, 10 points from the last four games is obviously a really good return from where we were, so we have to take the positives from that and move on quickly.

"They're (the players) giving us everything they've got and they've been going consistently for the last few weeks.
