Eilidh Adams' 15th goal of the season made the difference for Hibs
Sky Sports Cup winners Glasgow City were brought back down to earth with a home defeat by reigning champions Hibernian that leaves the Scottish Women's Premier League leaders just one point above Heart of Midlothian.
Eilidh Adams' stunning - if controversial - strike after the break was enough for the visitors to extend their unbeaten run to seven games as they built on their derby win over Hearts last time out.
City had recovered from their first domestic defeat of the season, against Rangers in the league, by gaining revenge over the same side a week later in Sunday's final.
But they have now failed to win in three league outings and Hearts are now breathing down their necks after their impressive 4-1 win over Celtic.
Although Hibs started brightly, it was City who threatened first through long-range efforts from Sofia Maatta and Natalia Wrobel.
However, Hibs had the first efforts on target, Adams and Rosie Livingston firing straight at goalkeeper Lee Gibson, before Wrobel's low drive was well held by visiting number one Noa Schumacher.
There was nothing Gibson could do after 51 minutes when Adams won the ball from Amy Anderson, with the home side claiming for a foul, before sending a glorious drive into the top corner from just outside the penalty box for her 15th goal of the season.
Gibson had to save at Adams' feet, Kathleen McGovern headed just wide and Scarlett Herron just failed to connect at the back post as Hibs went close to extending their lead.
However, Schumacher had to push away a Mebae Tanaka drive in the closing minutes to secure a victory that moves fifth-top Hibs to within eight points of the leaders.
