Look at that smile! This is what winning the Masters means.

Hideki Matsuyama has put his name into golfing folklore with a wonderful week at Augusta.

And he has made millions back home very happy by becoming the first Japanese man to win one of golf's four majors.

Five-time Masters champion Tiger Woods has also congratulated the latest owner of a green blazer, Hideki Matsuyama.

In a post on Twitter, Woods wrote: "Making Japan proud Hideki. Congratulations on such a huge accomplishment for you and your country. This historical Masters win will impact the entire golf world."

England's Justin Rose, speaking to Sky Sports: “I enjoyed the week and it’s a bit more evidence that I love playing this golf course and I know how to play it. I really read the greens well except for today.

“Weirdly today I felt I played better than I had all week. Just the putter went cold. It was a tricky day. Windy blustery conditions and it was easy to make a mistake. It was the kind of day you need a bit of momentum with the blade but I rode my luck yesterday.

“I say that nothing really important happens before April. The major season is when it really counts. This is the start of it. Every month there is one to prepare for and work for and that is what I will be doing. This is a confidence boost and gives plenty of evidence that things are going in the right direction.”

While Japan celebrates Matsuyama's victory, British fans will have to wait another year for another success.

England's Justin Rose led after the opening two rounds, but could not sustain his challenge for a first Masters title.

The 40-year-old finished on five under, five adrift of Matsuyama, after a final-round 74.

With Hideki Matsuyama’s victory, the winner of the Masters has now come out of the final pairing in 26 of the last 31 years.

What a Masters debut it was for 24-year-old American Will Zalatoris, who claimed second place on nine under.

"I have no idea how I'm feeling, I am speechless. To come one shot short is motivating but for it to come at the Masters where I have been coming since I was nine years old is exciting.

"I will come back next year and hopefully go one better."

Did he let himself think he could win? "Yes and no. I did a good job today staying patient, but obviously I started well with the birdies on one and two.

"But I've seen enough Masters to know a five-shot lead can dwindle very quickly.

"I needed to stay in it, I did that and I'm proud of myself."

A number of players hung around to pass on their congratulations to Hideki Matsuyama as he came off the 18th green.

And many more have joined the chorus of well wishers:

Speaking on Twitter, England's Ian Poulter said: "Congratulations Hideki, so proud of your win. You will truly enjoy this win with everyone at home in Japan. Well done. Much deserved."

Another Englishman Luke Donald, wrote: "Hideki a worthy champion, have always appreciated his worth ethic, he works really hard on his game, that green jacket will look good on you. You’ve made Japan proud."

Masters champion Hideki Matsuyama, speaking on Sky Sports: “I am really happy. My nerves really didn’t start on the back nine it was right from the start today and right until the very last putt.

“I was thinking about them [friends and family] all the way around. I am really happy I played well for them. Hopefully I will be a pioneer and many other Japanese players will follow and I am glad to be open the floodgates."

This is the moment which every golfer dreams of... to have a Green Jacket slipped over their shoulders.

"Congratulations," says last year's champion Dustin Johnson before warmly helping Matsuyama into his new piece of clothing.

Another warm smile breaks out over the 29-year-old's face as he fist bumps with the Augusta officials.

Matsuyama still looks stunned by the magnitude of his achievement as he briefly answers how he feels in English before switching to Japanese.

"I'm very happy," the 29-year-old says in English and then expands on his thoughts in his native language.

Let's head to Butler Cabin, a sacred place at Augusta, where the great and the even greater have collected Green Jackets over the past 87 years.

Hideki Matsuyama sits alongside last year's champion Dustin Johnson, who will present the Green Jacket as tradition dictates.

One can only imagine the pride of those back home as Matsuyama becomes the first Japanese man to win one of golf's four majors.

Not only that, it completes a remarkable Augusta double for the nation.

Eight days ago, there was Japanese success at the same venue when Tsubasa Kajitani won the Augusta National Women's Amateur.

Only a flicker of emotion across Matsuyama's face as he shakes hands with Xander Schauffele. The applause might not be as deafening as it should be, but it certainly won't make the occasion feel any less special.

Matsuyama calmly strolls off the 18th green towards the path to the scorer's hut, met there by his coach and support team.

Lots of excitable whooping and perhaps the hint of a triumphant sob from someone.

The most special moment in golf. And it belongs to the 29-year-old from Japan in the Augusta golden glaze.

Before that, Schauffele has a birdie putt to finish with a flurry... an inch wide of the target. A rollercoaster 72 for the American who finishes tied third.

It was never going to be a problem, was it? After a warm round of applause from the reduced number of patrons, a lovely splash out from Matsuyama leaves him five feet from the hole. Two putts from there...

Oh, hang on... there can't be another late twist. Can there? Matsuyama pushes his approach into the bunker on the right of the 18th green.

If it is a decent lie then there should be few problems for him. But then again he has never played a shot with so much on the line...
