  1. Double bogey for Lowrypublished at 20:35 BST

    Burns -8, Lowry -6 (5)

Oh dear! Shane Lowry nudges a long putt up inside a very makeable distance for a bogey, after that bunker trouble back on the fairway, but he can't convert so that's a three-putt as well as a bunker lip hit that costs him a double bogey.

He finds himself six behind now after giving away three shots in two holes.

  2. 'McIlroy's putter is stone cold'published at 20:31 BST

    McIlroy -10 (4)

    Iain Carter
BBC golf correspondent on BBC Radio 5 Live

McIlroy’s putter is stone cold today. He’s had birdie chances at the first and the second, he took the one on the third.

Now he’s three-putted from short range and you can’t rely on your putter for 72 holes can you?

  3. Postpublished at 20:29 BST

    Young -12, McIlroy -10 (4)

A brainfade at the 11th yesterday cost Rory McIlroy a double bogey.

He followed that with another dropped shot at 12 before clawing his way back and he needs a big response now after that three-jab from four feet.

The good news is there's plenty of golf still to play and he knows the ebbs and flows of Masters Sunday better than anyone.

  4. Missed chance for Rosepublished at 20:29 BST

    Day -7, Rose -9 (6)

Almost back-to-back bidies for Justin Rose but he's tugged that putt right from inside 15 feet on the sixth.

The Englishman has left a few putts out there this week and badly needs that to change over the remaining holes.

  5. 'McIlroy will be devastated'published at 20:27 BST

    McIlroy -10 (4)

    Trish Johnson
Former Europe Solheim Cup player on BBC Radio 5 Live

Didn’t he pick a moment there. Every shot he played was poorly played, Dreadful tee shot. Ok chip but left himself a tricky little putt, and then the three putt.

You can’t three-putt from four feet. He’ll be absolutely devastated.

You never know, shackles may be off now and just go for it.

  6. Another lip for Lowry!published at 20:25 BST

    Burns -8, Lowry -8 (4)

It's not a lip-out this time but a big fat lip of the fairway bunker on five that's stunned Shane Lowry, as he tries to execute one of the toughest shots in golf with a long iron out of a deep bunker.

He fires it hard into the lip and the ball bounces back out and behind the trees. He plays a beauty next up to get it onto the green but this is not the hole to make that mistake.

The fifth is the hardest hole on the course today so far.

  7. McIlroy doubles fourpublished at 20:25 BST

    Young -12, McIlroy -10 (4)

The par-three fourth is a beefy 251 yards down the hill and McIlroy hates his long-iron effort, turning away as it hooks left of the bunker.

Ohhh he almost holes it from there! He pitches it in the perfect spot and it just shaves the left edge of the hole on its way past.

But oh my word! He misses on the left and then lips out on the left with the one coming back. A disastrous three-putt from nowhere and it's a hammer blow of a double bogey.

Young came up well short but pitches up the green to five feet and makes the putt. Big. Two-shot lead.

  8. Welcome birdie for Rosepublished at 20:23 BST

    Day -7, Rose -9 (5)

A fist-pumping moment up on the fifth green for Justin Rose. The Englishman has looked slightly out of sorts so far but drains a swinging right-to-left putt from 28 feet.

That's only the second birdie at the fifth today and Rose is back in business at nine under.

Jason Day, who is rocking an all-yellow ensemble coughs up a shot after failing to find the putting surface with his second.

  9. Scheffler saves parpublished at 20:19 BST

    Scheffler -9, Li -6 (6)

Scottie Scheffler busts out the fist pump as he drains a great par saver on six to remain at nine under. He knows as he's chasing the leaders that he can't afford too many bogeys.

That was a big one for momentum.

  10. Henley up into tie for thirdpublished at 20:18 BST

    Cantlay -6, Henley -9 (6)

Russell Henley continues to creep up the leaderboard and climbs into a tie for third with birdie number three of the round.

The American Ryder Cup star sets it up with a spiralling wedge shot that finds the back of the green and then spins and drifts down the slop to within a foot of the pin.

  11. Lip-out for Lowrypublished at 20:17 BST

    Burns -8, Lowry -8 (4)

Shane Lowry slips back a shot on the par-three fourth despite hitting the green with his tee shot, his lag putt from distance wasn't too bad at all but his par saver was just too hard on the line he picked so it caught a big chunk of the left edge and turned away.

  12. Matsuyama making movespublished at 20:15 BST

    Matsuyama -7 (16)

2021 Masters winner Hideki Matsuyama is having himself a day out there.

He's just birdied 16 to move five-under for the day - with two bogeys on the card - and within five of the lead.

Too far back to win at this stage but it will be another strong showing for the Japanese player at Augusta.

  13. Battling Rose saves parpublished at 20:13 BST

    Day -8, Rose -8 (4)

Justin Rose is making heavy weather of his first four holes. He goes straight at the pin on the 260-yard Flowering Crab Apple and scoots through the green.

He then leaves himself an 8-footer for par after getting the pace of his second all wrong.

The Englishman is equal to that but it's been a battle.

  14. 'McIlroy - genius out of the bunkers'published at 20:11 BST

    McIlroy -12 (3)

    Trish Johnson
Former Europe Solheim Cup player on BBC Radio 5 Live

It’s a very underrated part of McIlroy’s game.

He’s an absolute genius out of the bunkers.

  15. McIlroy joins Young at the toppublished at 20:11 BST

McIlroy draws a clean lie in the bunker. He gives it an almighty thump and leaves himself another appealing uphill putt for a birdie.

In it goes! That was a great roll. He opens his account for the day and moves to -12.

Young bumps his pitch into the bank and the ball feeds down the slope, but it stays high, leaving a rapid putt from the back.

Not this time - and he leaves a four-footer back up the hill which he pours in with minimal fuss.

  16. Burns in bother with another bogeypublished at 20:07 BST

    Burns -8, Lowry -9 (3)

Sam Burns is in big bother after following his double bogey on the second with a bogey on the third - this time courtesy of trying to get too cute on the bunker shot and seeing his ball roll all the way back into the sand off that nasty slope.

It's just a short hole but it can be so difficult from the wrong spot - especially with this front flag they're using today.

  17. Bogey for Cantlaypublished at 20:07 BST

    Cantlay -6, Henley -7 (6)

Patrick Cantlay is apparently the only player to hit over 1,000 balls on the practice range at the Masters this week.

But that counts for nowt when he finds the wrong landing spot on the par-three sixth.

The American finds himself putting from over 60 feet for birdie and slips 13 feet past.

And that brings his first bogey of the day.

  18. Postpublished at 20:05 BST

    Young -12, McIlroy -11 (2)

Lady luck has shone on Cameron Young the past few days and he's just received another tremendously fortuitous break as his ball collides with the trees down the right of the third and ricochets back into the middle of the fairway.

No lucky bounce for Rory McIlroy though. His drive careens into the bunker just short of the green. That's going to be a horribly difficult second up the slope.

  20. Bogey for Rosepublished at 19:58 BST

    Day -8, Rose -8 (3)

Justin Rose has made errors on his first two holes. And he now makes another on the third, completely misjudging a bump and run on to the green and watching his ball roll straight back down the slope towards him.

His second effort isn't much better with his ball sellotaping itself to the ridge and it ends up costing him a stroke.
