    Blackburn 0-0 Coventry

We heard from Jack Rudoni before the match saying Coventry would need to match the Blackburn fight to allow their quality to show...

They're not at the moment. Rovers are playing with great intensity and pinching possession and playing directly and causing the leaders plenty of problems.

  2. Postpublished at 22 mins

    Blackburn 0-0 Coventry

    End-to-end stuff.

Ephron Mason-Clark's curling cross is headed away at one end before Kristi Montgomery launches a lung-busting run down the right, beating two City defenders, but his looping cross while off balance is too close to Carl Rushworth, who gathers at the second attempt after a fumble.

  3. 'Rovers having a few breaks'published at 20:20 BST

    Blackburn 0-0 Coventry

    Steve Ogrizovic
Ex-Coventry City goalkeeper on BBC CWR

Blackburn have had a few breaks, particularly down Coventry's left, their right.

Not much to trouble Coventry yet though other than that Ohashi effort.

    Blackburn 0-0 Coventry

Rovers looking very dangerous on the break whenever they can get a cross into the middle and the latest is nodded towards Moussa Baradji before being cleared, but a clumsy foul from Taylor Gardner-Hickman relieves the pressure on Coventry with a free-kick on the edge of their own box.

  5. 'Sweet moment for Lampard'published at 20:20 BST

    Blackburn 0-0 Coventry

    David Anderson
    BBC Sport England

The Coventry fans belted out their ‘Super Frank Lampard’ song and this will be a sweet moment for the England and Chelsea legend.

He had come up short in his previous attempts to win promotion to the Premier League, losing the 2019 Championship play-off final with Derby and in last season’s semi-finals with Coventry.

This was set to be Lampard’s best achievement as a manager and will top guiding Chelsea to the 2020 FA Cup final and keeping Everton up in 2022.

The away fans were enjoying themselves and sang ‘City are going up and Leicester are going down’ in glee at the plight of their Midlands rivals.

They felt a Coventry goal was inevitable, even though Rovers threatened first when Carl Rushworth saved from Yuki Ohashi’s flying, point-blank header.

    Blackburn 0-0 Coventry

Milan van Ewijk pounces on a loose pass in midfield and gallops down the right flank before swinging in an inviting cross which no 'bold hot coral' shirts can get on the end of at the back stick.

    Blackburn 0-0 Coventry

Frank Onyeka is led to the sideline but looks like he'll be ok to return shortly. Play has resumed.

We have a break in play as Frank Onyeka is down in the City box after a clash of heads and is getting some treatment.

He may be a tank, but those still hurt...

  9. 'Best chance of the game'published at 20:16 BST

    Blackburn 0-0 Coventry

    Steve Ogrizovic
Ex-Coventry City goalkeeper on BBC CWR

It's the best chance of the game. If Ohashi gets a touch either side of Carl Rushworth it's in. He'll rue the fact he never got much on it there.

The warnings are there to get your lines up quicker, it's so important to do the basics right.

Coventry got lucky with that effort.

From a Saints fan wishing the Sky Blues the best of luck. Pity John Sillett is still around to enjoy this moment, he'sprobably singing away up there beyond the pearly gates

Word of advise to Coventry from a Liverpool fan. Mind them balloons and see you next season.

  11. CLOSE!published at 13 mins

    Blackburn 0-0 Coventry

Now Yuki Ohashi spurns a glorious chance to put Rovers ahead.

He times his run brilliantly past a static City defence to meet Ryan Alebiosu's inswinging cross from deep on the right but his glancing header is straight into the midriff of Carl Rushworth who holds on.

A yard either side and that was 1-0...

Coventry living dangerously... mis-communication between two of the back-three there.

  12. Postpublished at 11 mins

    Blackburn 0-0 Coventry

Yuki Ohashi drifts offside just before Ryoya Morishita slots a low ball through the Coventry defence and though he runs on and sees a low shot saved by Carl Rushworth, the flag had long since gone up.

City have a back three tonight, for just the fourth time in the Championship this season, with Bobby Thomas slotting in.

  13. 'Eventful start for Ohashi'published at 20:13 BST

    Blackburn 0-0 Coventry

    Rob Gurney
    BBC Radio CWR Sport

Well, it's been an eventful start to the game for Yuki Ohashi.

  14. Postpublished at 9 mins

    Blackburn 0-0 Coventry

    Ouch.

Yuki Ohashi has clattered Frank Onyeka as he attempted an overhead kick in the City area after Ryan Alebiosu's looping cross was nodded back to him, but it's a free-kick and a hand of apology from Ohashi, who may need to tread rather more carefully.

    He seems fired up tonight.

  15. YELLOW CARDpublished at 7 mins

    Blackburn 0-0 Coventry

Lewis Smith is the man in the middle tonight and he's into the action early as he shows Blackburn's Yuki Ohashi a yellow card as he lunges in on Matt Grimes after losing possession of a bouncing ball on halfway.

Coventry City fans at Ewood ParkImage source, Shutterstock

As you might expect there's a cracking atmosphere at Ewood Park, both fans having a sing-song and a real carnival atmosphere in that packed away end with balloons and beach-balls flying about, one of which made it onto the pitch.

Let's hope for no Darren Bent repeats tonight, though, please...

  17. 'Good start from Coventry'published at 20:06 BST

    Blackburn 0-0 Coventry

    Steve Ogrizovic
Ex-Coventry City goalkeeper on BBC CWR

It's not going to one of those nights, is it!? It's was pinball in there, one, two, three, four shots, one of them had go in.

    Good start from Coventry.

Coventry's Ephron Mason-Clark shoots at goalImage source, Shutterstock

Glimpse of goal for the Sky Blues as Ephron Mason-Clark pounces on a loose ball in the Rovers half and drives forward, only to see a 20-yard blast charged down.

The subsequent Milan van Ewijk long throw causes chaos and City have a couple of shots bravely blocked in the goalmouth.

11,164 days ago, I sat inside Ewood Park and saw Alan Shearer score a hat-trick as Rovers thumped Coventry 5-1. No chance of a repeat tonight. Happy for Coventry to make it back up. New owners are urgently needed for Rovers to do similar.

Sat with (and declined a beer from) some Cov fans on my way to work in Manchester this morning. Hope they’ve taken it steady enough to remember the match.

  20. 'This group of players are really close'published at 20:02 BST

    Blackburn 0-0 Coventry

    Rob Gurney
    BBC Radio CWR Sport

It's been 25 really long years, none of us really thought it would a take quarter of a century.

We've had issues and trials, but this group of players are really close now.
