Josh Stones scored twice as York City maintained their determined pursuit of National League leaders Rochdale with a 4-0 home win over struggling Brackley.

The Minstermen, who had won 10 of their previous 11 games, took quite a while to score by their usual standards as it was not until the 19th minute when Stones headed in a looping Ollie Banks cross for the opener.

Stones got his second deep into first-half stoppage time as he swept home a loose ball for his 15th goal of the season.

Brackley had stopped the rot of seven straight losses with a draw last time out, but were doomed to taste defeat yet again when Greg Olley found the back of the net in the 71st minute.

Despite hearing that Rochdale had grabbed a late goal to beat Tamworth and prevent them from going top, there was more for Stuart Maynard's men to smile about when Ollie Pearce added gloss to the victory with his 30th strike of the campaign.
