Burnley

Burnley boss Scott Parker, speaking to BBC Sport: "When I analyse the game we missed too many chances today, glorious chances where we could have put the game out of sight. We weren't clinical enough, we missed some big chances and while it stays at 1-0 you are always on an edge and that was proven today.

"When you don't go through to the next round there will always be questions asked about that [team selection] but I don't think that was the main factor today. We lacked a little something in those final moments. That was where we have fallen way short today.

"What we didn't get was that little bit of quality which was needed. The fight and spirit..it was a team that had endeavour and trying for sure but the fine margins of what we do is that you need to put the ball in the net when you have big opportunities.

On confidence in his own position at the club: "Yes. More than confident and I have said that throughout. I'm sure someone has asked you to pass that question on to me. I am very comfortable in my position at this present moment in time. We have lost a game of football today against a team we should be beating. We had numerous chances. Of course you are always going to judge a result and today is a bad one, we take the flak for that, the team and myself."

Mansfield Town

Mansfield Town captain Louis Reed, speaking to BBC Sport: "Special day again. We seem to keep going and going in this competition. The lads were brilliant from start to finish.

"I've found some goalscoring form in this competition. I don't get many so to get three in this competition is a great feeling but the main thing is we are through to the next round.

"I had actually been working on them earlier in the week and as soon as we got the free-kick a few of the lads came up to me and said, 'this is what you've worked on,' in literally the exact same spot I'd been taking them in training. It's thankfully paid off. The occasion was extra special so I'd put that up there."

Aston Villa

Aston Villa manager Unai Emery: "To win a trophy is very difficult. To get it is through matches like today and with the circumstances like today that we had. How we competed today was really fantastic. Today, we played 45 minutes really good and how we were planning the match. With the red card, it became more difficult in the second half. We tried to compete. We tried to get our structure still working with one less playing and we competed but it was not enough because they had the power and they showed it and came with the result."

On the red card: "I accept it like some things can happen."

On whether Marco Bizot has said anything in the dressing room: "No. Nothing to complain. We made these mistakes but it was for all of us. Not just for the goalkeeper or Leon. We must get experience to try and correct it and to get better for the next decision that we will face."

On Tammy Abraham scoring: "Very good. I think overall the energy, we showed a good energy and the supporters were shouting with us as well. A good mood in first 45 minutes and even in the second half. We accept it. Analyse it. Get the spaces that we have and keep going with the motivation that have to face."

On still having the Premier League and Europa League to compete for: "The Europa League is important. Very important. We can get a trophy. It is going to be very difficult but we are very motivated. The Premier League is the priority. We are really fantastic in the table. We must be so proud of where we are in the table and everything we are doing. We have to focus and strongly prepare for each game."

Has there ever been a better advert for the video assistant referee?

Newcastle's 3-1 FA Cup fourth-round win at Aston Villa was full of controversy with the video assistant referee (VAR) once again the big talking point - even though it wasn't even in use.

For this season and the previous FA Cup campaign, it has not been used until the fifth round, with many fans looking forward to a return to football without interruptions from technology.

But referee Chris Kavanagh will have been wishing he had VAR to fall back on at Villa Park after an offside opener for the hosts, a blatant penalty for the visitors not awarded, plus at least three other controversial decisions that could have affected the outcome.

On Lucas Digne handball inside the box, which was not given as a penalty to Newcastle...

There is perhaps a small excuse for the referee to not see this, but I am being kind to him.

But there is no excuse whatsoever for the assistant, who is 10-15 yards away, Nick Greenhalgh, who had a nightmare today.

He is 15 yards away from that, goodness me. If you ever needed any evidence of the damage that VAR has done to referees, I think today is a great example of that. These guys look petrified to make a decision today because they didn't have a comfort blanket.

For me, they are actually getting worse [the decisions].

I don't think that is a difficult decision at all. In fact, it is easy. At this standard, that has to be given.

There is no excuse for the assistant to not tell the referee that he has got that totally wrong.

Wayne Rooney

Aston Villa were the better team and created the better chances in the first half. Again a bit of madness from the goalkeeper sees the game change.

Newcastle made changes in the second half and were the dominant team and deserved the win in the end. They kept pressing, kept putting the ball in the box and got the rewards in the end.

Newcastle United

Newcastle United forward Nick Woltemade: "I think first there was the offside, then a penalty and maybe another penalty. I think it is part of football. In the end we did well because we won but if it's not like this then maybe the decisions [are spoken about more] but we don't talk about it anymore because we won so it's alright."

On how good it felt for both he and Sandro Tonali to score: "We always sit together and I was saying to Sandy that he never scores and today he scored two. we always said it with Malick [Thiaw] and now he's scoring goals. Nobody said it to me but I also scored today. We are both happy of course for me especially as I have had a long period where I haven't scored and not played well so I'm happy with my performance and my goal and happy about our performance as well."

Newcastle United

Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe: "There is a lot to take in. The overriding feeling is that we are really pleased to be through. It was great character from the players to come back from a losing position. It is tough to win here at the best of times but being 1-0 down - I think we did well when we conceded that we didn't allow the goal and the decision that allowed it to affect us and destabilise our performance. I thought we were unfortunate to go in 1-0 down."

On the decisions that went against his side today: "It felt like it was one of those games that every decision was going against us. Of course it isn't intentional but it was just one of those things that you have to accept. Our players did well to control their emotions and not get themselves sent off for something. It did feel strange. The penalty for handball, I could see it from where I was. It did feel like it was one of those days where it wasn't going to happen. It's not easy to play against 10 v 11 to break down a stubborn defensive unit and I think we did that really well in the second half."

On Sandro Tonali getting back on the scoresheet: "Really pleasing. In Bruno's [Guimaraes] absence we know we needed everyone to give more and I thought Sandro let by example in that respect. [Nick] Woltemade, is contribution in midfeild was really good today and Jacob Ramsey against his former club. So I thought ther ewas some really strong performances that we are going to ahve to carry forward into future games."

On when Bruno Guimaraes will be back fit: "Around the next international break. The March international break that he will be back. He has a period of time now where he will have to work hard on his hamstring to make sure he is fully fit but we are looking at that period of time."

On Yoane Wissa's absence: "Just a little knock for Yoane in training yesterday. I don't think it's serious and don't think he will be away too long."

On how much he would like a FA Cup run: "It would be amazing to. We want to go as far as we can. We always take the cups seriously. There is a a massive prize at stake and the competition will really hot up in the latter stages. There are no easy draws for us."

Aston Villa

Aston Villa striker Tammy Abraham: "Difficult result to take, I'm proud of my team, we dug deep and gave them a tough game. We know they have qualities to create chances. When the first goal went in the heads go down because being a man down is always difficult.

"I'm proud of the boys and we must keep going. We have to keep believing in ourselves we, are still in the Europa League and in a good position in the Premier League."

On scoring his first goal since returning to Villa: "It means everything, as a striker you always want to score goals. I got unlucky in my first game with the goal ruled out. I'm always delighted to score. It's good to be back."

Newcastle United

Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali: "We are happy because we payed a tough game, two games in one. The first half 11 v 11, we conceded a goal that was probably offside, but we played very well and after the red cad it was as totally different game

"In the second half we played very well, every ball we played was 100%. I am happy for me, the team, and Nick [Woltemade] as well. We deserved this win, for the staff and fans.

"Of course. It's important for us to win away in front of lots of our fans. It makes it easier. Second half was like playing at St James' Park, Second half we were close to perfection."

That's your lot from Anfield. Time to hoover up some of the reaction from some of today's other fourth-round matches and this evening's game between Aston Villa and Newcastle.

Liverpool

Liverpool manager Arne Slot, speaking to BBC Sport: "Satisfying because we scored three and that's not really been coming for us. To create a lot of chances has been. To score three with the chances we did have has not happened that many times this season so I am really pleased with that.

"I thought we were up already earlier but not many moments later we scored from a full-back and another full-back attacking the box and that tells you how much these players want to score a goal. The second goal was even nicer than the first one.

"It started out with us bringing the ball out from the back. It was two teams wanting to bring the ball out from the back which you don't see that much anymore in the Premier League. It was a great team goal, a great switch and Mohamed Salah laying it off and the finish was probably the nicest part of the attack.

"In the end we get players back. It is fair to say we have developed a lot from two, three or four months ago. We are much more able to bring the intensity levels that are needed in the Premier League and Champions League after two days rest. Most of these players are young so there is a lot more to come from them. That is why we did what we did in the summer. Giving them time to adjust also cost us too many points that is also clear but the team is in a good place at the moment."

Liverpool

Liverpool boss Arne Slot, speaking to TNT Sports on his highlight from the match: "Maybe the goals, especially the second one. It was a special goal. It felt good for us and I should say a great save from Ali. It feels like a comfortable win, but it was closer than the 3-0 shows.

"It was also possible to press. Many times this year it wasn't possible because of the style of play from the tream. The modern Premier League is not so much about bringing the ball out from the back; it's more about set-pieces. The playing style of opponents has massively changed throughout the league.

On Mohamed Salah: "The next time is scoring with his right. It's nice to see him scoring on the right, but he's been influential in the last couple of games. He also does a lot off the ball. That's what he did against City, against Sunderland and tonight.

"I would almost say the FA Cup is just as hard as the Champions League because it's almost all the same teams. Margins are small, but it's fair for me to say this team has made proper development in the last couple of months. We struggle to bring the same intensity, but that is now at a far better level. Players have adjusted and the team seems fitter. It didn't always feel like we could compete, but now they are adjusted and you can see what this team can do.

"These players are young. Most of them, not all of them. Most of the signings are young. They need to adapt to a new country, a new league and playing at a higher intensity. Dominik Szoboszlai is a perfect example of that when you look at his past two and a half years coming from the Bundesliga."

Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler, speaking to BBC Sport: " We started the game well, controlled the ball and the game changed a little bit when they scored. The goal came out of nowhere. We had two big chances in the first half and we didn't use them. Liverpool were more effective.

"Second half it was the same picture we had a big chance with Lewis and then a two or three minutes after they scored. That was the diffrence, they used their moments and we didn't in the way they did. In the end it is a disappointing result because our fans were great today, they supported us for 90 minutes and they deserved more.

"We can't feel sorry for ourselves, we can't complain about these moments. It is about us and me taking responsibilty and working for it. You have to do the small step right and then we can take a big step.

On the Liverpool penalty: "It is a bad decision. It is just not good enough. It is difficult to speak to them [the officials]."

Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler, speaking to TNT Sports: "Very disappointed because I think we started the game well, we were good on the ball and had big chances in the first half. Good quality from Liverpool decided the game. We always tried to come back but we lost a little bit of belief to come back. The fans were great today; they deserved more.

"We had enough chances to score a goal. It was the moments that decided the game; they scored and we didn't. You can't defend all the sections from Liverpool. They had one or two and the penalty decided the game."

On what Brighton can do: "Keep going. Of course, we are not in a good moment but we are fully committed and the team showed again that we stick together. It's not easy to come out of these situations. You have to work for the good moments."

Liverpool

Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones, speaking to TNT Sports: "It was a good game. We scored three very good goals and a clean sheet as well and that is all you can ask for.

"There have been times I’ve scored more but not played as well as I am now. I just want to play well, help the team as much as I can. I am fortunate enough to be in team with lads that can score goals. The more times I can score I’ll try, the better.

"I’m a footballer. I’m a centre midfielder, I want to assist, score and help the team but if the manager needs me to play as a centre half or as a full-back or striker I'll go and do it and try my best.Today I was in as a full-back, I scored and helped the team so I am happy.

"I think we have clicked for a while. It is a season that has obviously not been as good as we'd have liked. You can't go into every game and expect to win. I think the team has gelled and off the pitch there is a good bond as well. It is a matter of time before we kick on again.

"I want to win everything. I know what the fans expect. I know what it is like to play for a team like this, you have to win things."

Liverpool

Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah, speaking to TNT Sports on scoring the penalty: "It was pressure for sure, but I'm glad we managed to win the game today. It was very big for the confidence.

Can Liverpool win the FA Cup? "It's going to depend on his [Dominik Szoboszlai] performances. He is one of the best players in the world right now. It's good for everyone and I hope we can do it again."

Liverpool

Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai, speaking to TNT Sports on his goal: "Not every time, but the last couple of times, it was fine, but I want to keep going and scoring as many as I can.

"I'm not playing a Steven Gerrard season, although he was a legend for this club, I try to do my own story."
