Former Newport County and Boston United manager Graham Coughlan has taken on an advisory role at League Two strugglers Barrow.

Coughlan, 51, lost his job at Boston in January, but is now helping out Barrow's interim player-coach Sam Foley.

"It's an opportunity for us to bring someone in that's experienced," Foley told BBC Radio Cumbria.

"I'm not experienced in this role, so he's been great for me to have around to be a sounding board."

Midfielder Foley, 39, was given the interim head coach's job on 11 March after the sacking of Dino Maamria.

This week, he drafted in Coughlan, who took the warm-up and was then on the bench alongside Foley as Barrow boosted their League Two survival hopes with a 2-1 win over leaders Bromley.

It was only their third league victory since October and ended the Ravens' 21-match unbeaten streak.

Foley's side are 23rd, in the second relegation place in League Two, but just two points behind Coughlan's former club Newport.
