nominated by:
Marianne Forelius, Stoke-on-Trent:
'I saw Kimmo Pohjonen perform at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester earlier this year. As I am half Finnish, I have always been interested in the folk-inspired music of Finland. From the start to the end of the concert I was amazed by the original music of Kimmo Pohjonen. The performance was fantastic. I think I will be rooting out my dad's old accordion from the cellar soon!'
Laura Smolenaers, Netherlands:
'He's a natural talent and a hard working nordic men.'
Jo Wathan, Stockport:
'Innovative stunning sounds and live performance, I was overcome to the point of tears when I saw him (et al) performing Kluster and Kalmuk at Manchester RNCM and was overjoyed that it translated to CD.'
Siiri Ries:
'He is real artist, impulsive, talented and gives lots of good impression.'
Frank van Binsbergen, London:
'Gets my vote for being the most innovative artist. His last two albums were inspirational and hypnotizing and were on my playdeck often last year.'
Amy Crickmay-Heraty, London:
'I want to see the Finnish chap come first! I first heard Kalmuk at the Royal Festival Hall last year & loved it. The music was fantastically exciting, not least becasue Kimmo Pohjonen & the other musicians gave such passionate performances, often verging on the dramatic. Kalmuk is something excitingly new whilst quoting it's influences from Kimmo Pohjonen's classical training to his love of Piazzola.'
Colin Clark, Glasgow:
'Incredibly original artist; he has a great physical command of the instrument - he seems to wield it almost as much as play it during his brilliantly theatrical performances.'
