Adverbs of frequency are words like always, never and sometimes.
People use them to talk about how frequently things happen.
In this session, we’ll find out what they mean and you'll learn some simple rules to help you use them properly.
Now that we've looked at the meaning of some adverbs of frequency, let's find out how you use them in a sentence.
Have a look at these sentences and pay special attention to the context - that means the words that come before and after each adverb of frequency.
- I always use my Oyster card.
- It usually takes 40 minutes.
- You should always eat breakfast.
- That doesn't often happen.
- I'm always on my bike.
- They aren't usually late for work.
Here usually has the same meaning as normally. These adverbs could be used when we want to say something happens about 60 to 80% of the time.
