That is all for the live text and brings day one to a close.

Four more thrilling matches to come tomorrow and it should be a good day.

This is what is coming up...

13:00 GMT - Wu Yize (Chn) v Michael Holt (Eng), Neil Robertson (Aus) v Julien Leclercq (Bel).

19:00 GMT - Mark Williams (Wal) v David Gilbert (Eng), Xiao Guodong (Chn) v Pang Junxu (Chn).

    Until then, bye for now.

  2. 'I made some good clearances'published at 23:01 GMT 29 November 2025

    Higgins 6-2 Lyu

After his 6-2 win over Ben Woollaston, John Higgins spoke to the media and said: "Ben will be kicking himself. He should have won frames two and three, I made some good clearances.

"I played Shaun in China and I managed to win, but he beat me the last couple of times before that. He hits the ball like an absolute dream so I hope it's a good game.

"Winning the Masters [in January] has given him extra confidence and he is so dangerous when he is playing well. It's Scotland against England."

  3. 'Delighted to get through'published at 22:57 GMT 29 November 2025

    Murphy 6-2 Lyu

"Winning is all that matters," said Shaun Murphy after his 6-2 win over Lyu Hoatian. "It's just like the World Championship in the first round. I watched every single ball of Judgement Day, I love it, then you realise you're going to play one of these guys that are really sharp, match fit and they have a fair crack at it.

"I played nicely in parts, a few mistakes, but delighted to get through and the small matter of John Higgins next.

"What they [Higgins, Mark Williams and Ronnie O'Sullivan] continue to achieve, spurring each other on, is remarkable. John has been a big help in my career, I watched him a lot and I just hope I don't have to watch him too much in the next round.

"It has shown what the rest of us can do if you keep your heads down. When I first started playing snooker, you thought your career would be over by 40, but they have been the trailblazers.

"I fell in love with snooker at eight and I'm still in love with it. You will always find me playing snooker for as long as possible and hopefully on tour."

    Breaking

    Murphy 6-2 Lyu

And it is not long before the next result. Shaun Murphy trailed 2-1 but then wins five frames on the spin to bounce into the last 16 thanks to a 6-2 victory over Lyu Haotian.

  5. Higgins beats Woollastonpublished at 22:20 GMT 29 November 2025
    Breaking

    Higgins 6-2 Woollaston

John Higgins is the next man through into the last 16, sealing a 6-2 victory over Ben Woollaston.

  6. Woollaston wins another onepublished at 22:00 GMT 29 November 2025

    Higgins 5-2 Woollaston

Ben Woollaston pulls another frame back, but there's still not much to smile about for him.

But he is still in the tournament after punishing a missed black off the spot early on from Higgins. After a break of 70 in frame six, he now makes 65 in frame seven.

  7. No 147 for Murphy, but now one away from victorypublished at 21:57 GMT 29 November 2025

    Murphy 5-2 Lyu

Ten reds, ten blacks now for Shaun Murphy and he hits 80.

But a red stays on the table to end those maximum hopes. Still enough to take the frame though and, just like John Higgins on table one, Murphy is now one frame from victory.

  8. Postpublished at 21:54 GMT 29 November 2025

    Murphy 4-2 Lyu

Shaun Murphy on eight reds, eight blacks.

  9. Woollaston clinging on, Murphy two uppublished at 21:47 GMT 29 November 2025

Higgins 5-1 Woollaston, Murphy 4-2 Lyu

John Higgins should be doing his post-victory media interviews right now. Instead, he is still in the arena wondering how he did not seal a 6-0 victory.

Leading 5-0, he was 58-0 up after a 58 break, but then missed a red to give Woollaston a much-needed lifeline. All credit to the qualifier, as he took it well with a 70 clearance to win on the black having lost two frames via that route earlier on.

On table two, Shaun Murphy has won three frames on the bounce now to move into a 4-2 lead against Lyu Hoatian.

  10. Murphy ahead for first timepublished at 21:36 GMT 29 November 2025

    Murphy 3-2 Lyu

Shaun Murphy is ahead for the first time tonight and it is a 3-2 lead he holds, but it is still a long night coming with plenty of twists in this hard-fought clash still to come.

He made a 63 break early in the frame and then after a prolonged safety battle got the frame done.

John Higgins is dominating this match, but he’s been massively helped by having an opponent who simply hasn’t showed up tonight. John is still struggling with certain shots.

    James, Accrington

  12. Higgins closing in on victorypublished at 21:31 GMT 29 November 2025

    Higgins 5-0 Woollaston

John Higgins is one frame away from victory, and it is another one Ben Woollaston has let fly away.

Woollasston was 32-0 ahead and then after drawing a couple of fouls from Higgins, the English qualifier was 56-58 behind and down to the green, but then ran out of position, snookering himself behind the brown.

It then got worse for him as he left the green on into the middle and Higgins dished up to take it 76-50.

  13. Higgins in control, Murphy-Lyu levelpublished at 20:46 GMT 29 November 2025

Higgins 4-0 Woollaston, Murphy 2-2 Lyu

We're at the mid-session interval on both tables and Shaun Murphy has levelled it up at 2-2 against Lyu Haotian in what has been a hard-fought affair.

But John Higgins is running away with it in his match with Ben Woollaston, leading 4-0 at the break. Higgins has won two of those frames on the black and made three half centuries - 66, 51, 84.

Could we see the second 6-0 of Saturday after Si Jiahui thrashed Ryan Day by that scoreline earlier on?

  15. Higgins wins another one on the blackpublished at 20:26 GMT 29 November 2025

Higgins 3-0 Woollaston, Murphy 1-2 Lyu

For the second frame in a row, John Higgins wins it on the black. He was 52-0 down and won it 66-52 in frame two and now was 55-15 behind in frame three and has snatched it 66-55.

Higgins halfway to the last 16. Lyu Haotian has cleaned up a messy-looking table to move 2-1 ahead against Shaun Murphy.

  16. Murphy on the boardpublished at 20:15 GMT 29 November 2025

Higgins 2-0 Woollaston, Murphy 1-1 Lyu

Shaun Murphy has made it 1-1 in his match with Lyu Haotian, but it is slow progress in the third frame.

On table one, Ben Woollaston, just as he did in the last frame which he lost on the black, got into the 50s only to faulter, to hand John Higgins an opportunity.

  17. Higgins doubles lead after Woollaston misses vital potpublished at 19:57 GMT 29 November 2025

    Higgins 2-0 Woollaston

We've now had black-ball finishes on both tables tonight. Ben Woollaston, having lost the opening frame, was progressing nicely in the second and was 52-0 ahead when he missed a brown off the spot.

That gave John Higgins a glorious chance and he took full advantage with a superb clearance of 66, finishing on the black, to double his advantage.

  18. Higgins ahead, Lyu grabs opener on the blackpublished at 19:44 GMT 29 November 2025

Higgins 1-0 Woollaston, Murphy 0-1 Lyu

Three-time UK champion John Higgins has made a bright start to his 2025 campaign by taking the opening frame against qualifier Ben Woollaston.

On the other table, Shaun Murphy made a break of 44 to move 52-5 ahead, but two fouls when trying a three-cushion escape gifted Lyu Haotian eight points. Murphy then left a red on into middle, but Lyu appeared to have blown his chance.

But, with only four balls left on the table, Murphy missed the brown with Lyu snatching the frame 60-57 on the black.

A brilliant week of snooker ahead, Christmas has come early!

    Stuart, Swindon

Very hard game for Judd today, Stephen played really well but the odd mistake cost him. Think Judd needs to cut out his high risk shots to go further in the tournament but kept his nerve to win today. Very entertaining game to watch. Love snooker.

Stephen Maguire was left fuming following his 6-4 loss to Judd Trump and blamed the table after missing a vital shot in the seventh frame. With the score 3-3 and him leading 24-1, he missed what appeared to be a straightforward red into the middle pocket.

"When you play a shot into the middle and the white takes off, I nearly missed the red completely, it's supposed to be the second biggest tournament in the world," said Maguire.

"How can you not get the table up to scratch? The table played well apart from that slate, the bags [pockets] were tight for both of us. That match was there for the winning, it was a simple shot. Judd did not know what day it was. Through no fault of my own, I'm out of the tournament.

"There's no way he played better than me. There's no positives there. I thought I had a lot more to give in this tournament. I feel a bit hard done by, but it's not sour grapes."

Trump added: "If that goes in it would have been a completely different game and he would've been 4-3 up, so I can sympathise."

In response to the criticism of the table, a statement from the World Snooker Tour (WST) said: "We always listen to feedback from players and will check any issues raised."
