Like with Cardiff and Scarlets last night, there was no shortage of endeavour and plus points from the Welsh sides today but ultimately - their efforts ended in defeats.

The easy narrative from the Ospreys defeat is the yellow card to Jac Morgan when the scores were level late on - but in reality, Mark Jones' side paid the price for a lack of a clinical edge in attack.

All too frequently in Galway, prolonged pressure came to nothing and while the head coach can point to positives, frustration will reign. And rightly so.

Dragons also threatened a landmark away win but despite showing attacking prowess, and notching a four try bonus-point, defensively they ran out of steam in the second half.

The away day woes for both these sides continue. And with just four rounds of the URC to go, the stark reality is only one of the four Welsh sides, Cardiff, realistically remains in contention for the play-offs.

    Thank you for joining.

Lions are just so strong, a bonus-point win in the bag and securing a top eight place in the table for now.

And we know what any South African bench can bring and they used that with this game to get over the line.

So, what do these results mean for the overall play-off picture?

They have just finished in Johannesburg, with the five-point win meaning Lions move into the top four.

That leaves Connacht ninth, just a point off Pretoria Bulls, while Ospreys are 11th but now nine points off the pace.

As for Dragons, their primary target now simply appears to be avoiding being the bottom Welsh side.

They started the day 15th but scored four tries in South Africa this afternoon, drawing them level on points with Scarlets above them.

Job done for the Lions at Ellis Park as they boost their play-off hopes.

They put the foot down in the second half but Dragons showed more tenacity to ensure they return home with something to show for their efforts in South Africa.

Braces by Aneurin Owen and Rio Dyer earn a well-deserved bonus point as they build towards the last 16 tie at Stade Francais in the Challenge Cup.

However, they have scrum-half worries after the loss of Niall Armstrong and Rhodri Williams, with Che Hope already out for the season.

With the Ospreys, they were there until the end.

But again the wind played a factor, which always does when you play here.

It was great seeing Jac Morgan back starting, he was amongst everything, the turn overs, the mauls, line breaks.

The turning point for me was that disallowed try for him, the forward pass and couldn't get behind Dan Edwards.

If you were to say to me, that finished 21-21, I would say fair play. The Ospreys deserve that.

But again, Connacht just taking their chances, getting points on the board, and defended so so well.

I thought it was a fantastic performance for the Ospreys, especially after the Benetton game.

They've come here to Galway and played a good match.

Unfortunately, they didn't take the points at the end of that first half which has really cost them.

Where as Connacht, they took their chances and were so clinical.

I was prepared for a draw, but the way they took their chances is why they won today.

I think the Ospreys need to scrap with every game they've got coming up.

    Dyer try

Dragons won't leave South Africa empty handed!

Great hands to put Dyer in down the left and he has the pace for the fourth try.

Dragons will go level with Scarlets in the URC table, although the west Walians remain 14th on wins.

Few can complain about that call.

The returning flanker carried powerfully and finished well from close range for his two tries. How Ospreys could have done with him during the periods they banged away at the line today - only to come away with nothing.

    Cronje try

A superb finish by wing Erich Cronje, albeit the Dragons' defence left something to be desired.

Huw Anderson can't stop him going over down the left.

Can Dragons get a sniff of a try to go back above Scarlets in the URC table.

Five from five for Connacht, and sheer frustration for Ospreys.

This is where the difference is going to highlighted between the two teams.

Connacht have taken their chances well, Ospreys haven't.

    It's as simple as that.

    Connacht 21-14 Ospreys

Against a strong wind and a man down, Ospreys have little choice but to keep ball in hand in their own 22 here.

But they essentially get nowhere before Dan Edwards tries a speculative chip and Connacht win back possession.

The hosts just have to wind down the clock from here.

    Steyn try, Smith con

    Dragons are flagging.

Scrum penalty leads to a five-metre lineout and then scrum-half Steyn goes over down the short side.

Lions will win with a bonus, can Dragons find another score to get a four-try bonus of their own?

Devine got away with running that line, and allows him to run through.

They've been mounting the pressure, and they took advance of the Jac Morgan sin bin.

    Devine try, Naughton con

    A moment of Devine intervention!

Sean Naughton more than makes up for his missed penalty with a sidestep and break in midfield, and the replacement nine, Matthew Devine, is on his shoulder to go under the posts.

    A potentially match-winning score.

No thoughts of the corner now as Sean Naughton lines one up from 38 minutes.

In the swirling wind though he can't find the target - the crowd silence that greeted that miss was deafening.

Not only are Dragons down to 14 men with Rio Dyer in the sin bin but they have a fly-half at scrum-half.

Rhodri Williams has followed Niall Armstrong in going off injured.

This will be a serious test in the final quarter.

  19. Sin bin: Jac Morganpublished at 72 mins

    Huge moment.

Matthew Devine takes a quick tap penalty and the attack sees Bundee Aki power down the right wing before being thwarted by a Daniel Kasende cover tackle.

However, we go back for a Connacht penalty, with Morgan seemingly impeding Devine before he had made 10 metres.

    Connacht 14-14 Ospreys

Morgan Morse has had a big impact for Ospreys off the bench here and the back row forward carries hard into the Connacht half.

But then Luke Davies tries a box-kick which nigh on blows back over his head. The away side still have the ball but are penned back in their own territory here.
