  1. 'Millwall could be three up'published at 13:25 GMT 24 January

    HT: Millwall 1-0 Charlton

    Chris Peddy
    BBC Sport at The Den

Lots of entertainment in the early afternoon sun but somehow only one goal.

Big misses from Femi Azeez and Josh Coburn have let the Addicks off, the visitors could easily be heading down the tunnel two or three goals down. Coburn's miss in particular will be one he won't rush to watch again.

There are loud boos for referee Gavin Ward as he heads off the pitch, both sides had penalty shouts waved away in the first half. Big half-time team talks to come now.

  2. 'Boro will want clean sheet'published at 13:20 GMT 24 January

    HT: Middlesbrough 3-0 Preston

    Neil Maddison
Former Middlesbrough midfielder on BBC Tees

Boro will want a clean sheet, make sure you do your job defensively.

Make sure second half you are really thorough with your passing, do not give them a chance to get back in this game.

If Preston come out and have a go, it will help Boro have the chance to score more.

  3. HALF-TIMEpublished at 13:20 GMT 24 January

    Middlesbrough 3-0 Preston

Middlesbrough are in control thanks to goals from Alan Browne, Tommy Conway and Morgan Whittaker and it might have been more with Leo Castledine having a shot blocked and Browne heading over.

All that came after Preston had early penalty appeals for handball against Matt Targett waved away by referee Andy Madley.

Preston have played into Middlesbrough's hands with some shockingly bad defending, but the home side are rampant and may not be done yet.

  4. HALF-TIMEpublished at 13:18 GMT 24 January

    Millwall 1-0 Charlton

HOW is this only 1-0? I have no idea.

A very entertaining game, Charlton fell behind to an early own goal but have played some good stuff - while Josh Coburn has missed the sitter of all sitters for Millwall.

    More goals to come, surely.

    Middlesbrough 3-0 Preston

We are into four minutes of stoppage time.

    What a half for Boro.

    What a disaster for Preston.

  6. 'Whittaker gets in really good positions'published at 13:13 GMT 24 January

    Middlesbrough 3-0 Preston

    Neil Maddison
Former Middlesbrough midfielder on BBC Tees

Lewis Gibson has his pocket picked by Morgan Whittaker.

He steps in, pinches the ball and makes no mistake there.

No chance for the 'keeper, he really drives it past him.

He gets in some really good positions does Whittaker.

  7. goal

GOAL Middlesbrough 3-0 Prestonpublished at 13:12 GMT 24 January

    Morgan Whittaker (42 mins)

    Dear me...

Preston goalkeeper Jack Walton catches a corner and rolls the ball to Lewis Gibson.

The defender is sleeping and Morgan Whittaker nicks the ball away and makes it 3-0.

Eleven goals for the season for Whittaker now after a slow start to his campaign.

  8. Postpublished at 13:12 GMT 24 January

    Middlesbrough 2-0 Preston

They are lining up to have go for Middlesbrough now and Aidan Morris strides forward to have a shot which is deflected wide.

From the corner, Luke Ayling tries a cheeky flick which Jack Walton fields in the Preston goal.

Walton then has to tip away Hayden Hackney's shot.

The visitors are hanging on a bit.

  9. Postpublished at 13:11 GMT 24 January

    Middlesbrough 2-0 Preston

    Neil Maddison
Former Middlesbrough midfielder on BBC Tees

They play a high line do this Preston side, as we saw with Offiah being about three weeks behind the rest of his defensive line when they pushed up.

  11. 'How has Coburn missed?!'published at 13:10 GMT 24 January

    Millwall 1-0 Charlton

    Chris Peddy
    BBC Sport at The Den

How - how - has he missed?

Femi Azeez has just picked the ball up and run the length of the pitch down the left and put it on a plate for Josh Coburn with only the keeper to beat.

The former Boro striker hits it first time as he should - and he puts it over.

That is a staggering miss and a huge let-off for Charlton, who are somehow still only a goal down.

  12. SITTER!published at 13:08 GMT 24 January

    Millwall 1-0 Charlton

WHAT a miss! Brilliant again from Femi Azeez, he carries the ball 50-60 yards for Millwall on the break and then threads an incredible ball across from the left wing.

It divides the Charlton defence and keeper, Josh Coburn arrives on it at full pace and just needs to hit the target to score, but somehow slices wide of the goal from about four yards out...

  13. Postpublished at 13:07 GMT 24 January

    Middlesbrough 2-0 Preston

    Mark Drury
    BBC Tees commentator

No great urgency from the away team.

They are all just ambling around.

  14. Postpublished at 13:07 GMT 24 January

    Middlesbrough 2-0 Preston

Morgan Whittaker sends in a free kick for Middlesbrough and Alan Browne heads over the bar.

    Browne is everywhere today.

  15. Postpublished at 13:06 GMT 24 January

    Millwall 1-0 Charlton

Lyndon Dykes links up nicely with Joe Rankin-Costello as Charlton move the Millwall backline around nicely. The visitors are playing some nice stuff but that final ball has just been lacking so far.

  16. Postpublished at 13:04 GMT 24 January

    Middlesbrough 2-0 Preston

Hayden Hackney is away on the break for Middlesbrough.

He finds Leo Castledine whose shot is blocked but falls into the path of Morgan Whittaker who also has an effort blocked before going down wanting a penalty.

Preston are playing a dangerous game in possession.

  17. Postpublished at 13:01 GMT 24 January

    Middlesbrough 2-0 Preston

    The game is so open.

Both teams are finding it easy to play through each other but Middlesbrough have taken full advantage.

It is a long way back for Preston now.

The way this Championship promotion race is going it does look like a case of who will blink first among the top three.

  18. 'He is four or five yards behind the rest of his backline'published at 13:01 GMT 24 January

    Middlesbrough 2-0 Preston

    Brett Ormerod
Former Blackpool and Preston striker on BBC Radio Lancashire

Odel Offiah is day-dreaming, or else it's laziness, I do not know which but this game is already being taken away from Preston.

It is naivety. You have to be clued up with your back four.

He has got to get up there.

He is four or five yards behind the rest of his backline playing him miles onside.

No fault to the 'keeper for either of these goals.

    Both goals were preventable.

  19. Postpublished at 12:59 GMT 24 January

    Millwall 1-0 Charlton

Femi Azeez is the real dangerman for Millwall. He has a great chance to double the lead but fluffs a shot in the middle of the goalmouth, a total air ball.

  20. goal

GOAL: Middlesbrough 2-0 Prestonpublished at 12:58 GMT 24 January

    Tommy Conway (28 mins)

    He is back in form.

The game is so open and Luke Ayling arcs the ball into the path of Tommy Conway who sprints away before shooting through the legs of Jack Walton.

A fifth goal of the season for Conway and, like Alan Browne, his second in two games.
