HT: Real Madrid 0-1 Bayern Munich

Real Madrid can consider themselves fortunate to be just the one goal behind at half-time.

Though the hosts have registered more shots on target than Bayern Munich (four v three), the Bundesliga side have registered an xG rating 1.89.

Could those misses from Dayot Upamecano and Serge Gnabry come back to bite Bayern?

Am I the only one who thinks Arsenal played better without Martin Odegaard?

It's been relatively cagey and a little bit reserved. Neither team really got the upper hand and it's fairly even at the moment.

Goalless at the break but Maxi Araujo has been a bright spark for Sporting, marauding up and down the left flank for the home side.

    Sporting 0-0 Arsenal

The referee didn't fancy seeing much more of this as the whistle goes for half-time the moment the clock hit 45 minutes.

Mikel Arteta is trying to bring some intensity to how Arsenal defend when Sporting have the ball near their penalty area.

He just ran along his technical area to encourage Ben White and Noni Madueke to press the ball.

    That's that then.

A thrilling first half with chances at both ends but Bayern lead at the break.

Their only complaint will perhaps be that it's not more than one goal.

    Real Madrid 0-1 Bayern Munich

Real Madrid are appealing for a penalty but referee Michael Oliver gives it the other way.

Dayot Upamecano makes the challenge on Vinicius Jr in the corner of the penalty box but the decision is handball after the Brazilian tried to take things into his own hands, (literally).

Watching both games simultaneously and looks like I’m watching two different competitions. The quality of Bayern's and Madrid's attacks are leagues above Arsenal's and Sporting's.

  10. 'Sporting have an edge at the moment'published at 20:46 BST

    Sporting 0-0 Arsenal

    Matt Upson
Former Arsenal defender on BBC Radio 5 Live at José Alvalade Stadium

Sporting look like they have more edge to them in open-play. Arsenal look better from set-plays but Sporting look more dangerous.

It's a big effort from the Sporting team at the moment.

    Sporting 0-0 Arsenal

Arsenal have their first shot on target with 42 minutes on the clock but it is a pretty tame effort from Martin Odegaard, straight at the goalkeeper.

The stats initially showed Luis Suarez as being booked for dissent but that's now disappeared, leaving Hidemasa Morita as the only player booked so far in this match.

There's a huge amount of experience on the bench for Real Madrid to turn to which is why the selection tonight really surprised me.

"Structure" really does seem to be Arsenals problem, it's their strength but also their weakness, they consistently struggle to break these teams down, as the structure they enforce completely strangles any creativity. They are so rigid.

That was Serge Gnabry's fifth assist of this Champions League campaign - the most of any player.

It was also Luis Diaz's fifth goal of the campaign.

    A gorgeous finish.

Real Madrid were cut open with ruthless efficiency from the Germans. Harry Kane to Serge Gnabry and then what a pass that was and Luis Diaz isn't missing from that.

Bayern finally take a deserved lead!

It's lovely pass and move football from Bayern to carve Real Madrid open after Vinicius Jr gives the ball away cheaply.

It comes from Harry Kane to Serge Gnabry then to Luis Diaz and the Colombian slots home.

    Sporting 0-0 Arsenal

Arsenal did hit the crossbar from Noni Madueke's corner but otherwise they've had one shot on goal and none on target. They haven't been threatening enough overall.

The referee has been quick to brandish the yellow card in this game.

Luis Suárez was also shown a yellow card for dissent, presumably unhappy with the booking for Hidemasa Morita. That, I believe, means he will be suspended for the second leg.
