Brentford

Brentford manager Keith Andrews, speaking to Sky Sports: "It is difficult to put it all into perspective. There was a lot happening in the game, a lot of drama, a lot of decisions going one way or the other. "The underlying feeling at the moment is immense pride in the performance levels, the character. Whatever was thrown at us tonight, I thought we dealt at it really well and played a game that was needed coming to a place like this."

On the mentality of the side: "When you come here, you know what type of game it is going to be when the crowd get going and the way they play the game. You have to show personality and bravery with the ball. Adapt in game, make big decisions in game - and I thought they did that so well. Whatever was thrown at us, even at 2-2 I wanted us to go for a winner, I wanted us to push and thankfully we were able to get the winner."

On adapting in game: "It was vital. The waves were coming and we couldn't quite get there with the press. They were controlling little parts of the game where we couldn't quite get there and stop them. I just thought we stuck at it and were concentrating on transitions even during that spell. We looked quite dangerous, looked quite controlled. I think in the last two games coming to two different football clubs, two different styles, two very good sides - I felt we were really calm throughout the game and that's the most pleasing thing."

On his views on Newcastle's penalty: "I haven't watched it back. I don't feel it is about that. I am quite consistent on my views around officials that they have a very difficult job on their hands. Some decisions will go for you, some will go against - I don't know is the honest answer. I don't want that to be the overriding talk around the game."

On how special this season is turning out to be: "It's a special group. I said that from day one and it came from a very genuine place and how I felt about the players having known them, known their qualities as people, known their capabilities as players and what we have done is gone from strength to strength and I love seeing the development and evolution of the team."

Brentford

Brentford manager Keith Andrews, speaking to Match of the Day: "We spoke about today whatever is thrown at us lets deal with it, and the players had to do that. Going a goal down, a goal up and then the equaliser. Not being satisfied with that away from home against a big club like this, it was very pleasing watching the character and development of the group. The calmness and confidence was also nice to watch."

Dango Ouattara's winning goal: "He's growing all the time. The cross was sensational, and then the finish was outstanding. He's constantly evolving his game, he's a big part of our group."

European football next season: "I'll certainty be going there on holiday in the summer, that's the only way we'll speak about that for the foreseeable future."

Newcastle United

Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe, speaking to Match of the Day: "A strange game because I think at 2 - 2 you think you're going to go on and win it. The game got away from us with a really poor third goal, the construction of it we're all out attack, which is fine in that moment of course. But we need to do it in control, and we weren't in control of the transition well enough."

Newcastle being easy to score against: "It's been a massive problem in this last group of games, we all know if you defend well you've got a chance with our attacking players of scoring. We scored two today and we lost the game and got nothing from it which is hugely frustrating from our view point."

Bruno Guimaraes back out on the pitch and penalty: "A big pressure moment and he responded with a really cool penalty. I thought he did well to get through the game considering he's missed quite a chunk of training."

Newcastle United

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe, speaking to Sky Sports: "It is a massive disappointment. It was hard work out there for us. It was the type of game we probably thought it would be - two physical teams going at each other and at 2-2 I thought we were in the ascendancy and we would go on and win the game, but the third goal is a bad one from our view point."

On not being able to build on leads: "I think it has been a feature of our performances this season. When we have been leading, we haven't gone with the conviction to put the game to bed. There were a couple of moments where we could have made it 2-0, we didn't and then we concede two goals and had to do it the hard way. I thought we were going to win the game to be honest but the third goal is really poor from our perspective and we just have to deal with it."

On trying to find their feet in the second half: "We thought we needed another view point, another spark. We made the double switch and I thought we were better for it. I thought we had a bit more attacking threat. It's difficult to say but bar the goals I don't think we defended too badly but they were always in it with their transitions. They were always in the game but I thought we were managing them. The third goal came out of the blue, probably set us back and I think we lost a bit of belief then."

On Brentford's penalty: "I think it is harsh on him but if it was the other way around I would want the penalty as well so I think it could have gone either way and it has gone against us."

On putting together a 90 minute performance: "We pride ourselves on finding ways to win and we have done historically but at the moment we are not. We are battling, we are fighting. The players are 100% trying. I don't think we our playing at our best and at the moment we are on the wrong of every mistake and it is something we have to rectify quickly."

On what is does for the team's confidence on this run: "It is damaging. It is damaging for our psychology but there is only one way to solve that and it is to dig out a win from somewhere and then you can totally flip the feeling in one match and I think that is what we have to try and do. Away from home, the bigger the challenge, we have to try and rise to it."

On his message to supporters: "I thought the crowd considering today were really, really good. We haven't performed as we would want to consistently this season and I think they have backed with us and stayed with us. I have no issue with anything they delivered for us, it is up to us to deliver better."

On they key for the team moving forwards: "Character. Resilience. Spirit. Fight. All of those key characteristics are what we need at the moment."

On whether they have that right now: "I think the individual players have got that, that's where we are where we are in the competitions we are fighting in. But reminders and healthy reminders are a really good thing and we need to get back to basics because we can't keep conceding the goals that we are."

The boos at half-time and full-time told their own story.

This was a damaging defeat for Newcastle and head coach Howe.

His weary side desperately looked in need of home comforts following a gruelling run of away fixtures against Carabao Cup finalists Manchester City, Premier League champions Liverpool and Champions League holders Paris St-Germain.

But some familiar vulnerabilities on the road have now started to rear their head at this one-time fortress after three home defeats in just four games at St James' Park.

Newcastle are favourites to reach the last 16 of the Champions League through the play-offs and can still reach Wembley again through the FA Cup, even if a testing fourth-round tie against Aston Villa awaits next week.

But this season is starting to unravel.

Newcastle United

Newcastle defender Kieran Trippier, speaking to Sky Sports: "It is very tough, there is no denying that. To go 1-0 up - it's just disappointing with the goals we've conceded. Over the past couple of years, we have been a real force at home. But like I said the other day, we can't put our heads down - the reality is, we've got another big game midweek but it is tough to take, of course."

On the frustration of throwing leads away: "The games we've had, we've taken the lead and it is about putting more pressure on and maintaining and getting that second goal. We are going through a tough spell at the moment, there is no denying that but again, we have another game in midweek and we need to refresh, get our heads down and concentrate on another big game midweek.

On how he keeps the other players' heads up as one of the senior players: "It is my responsibility, the senior players, to calm things down and lead by example. I have been in this place many times in m career, as other senior players have, so it is my responsibility to help the players because it is a demanding season, there are a lot of games, so I take full responsibility as a senior player in the dressing room."

On what he would say to those getting frustrated at the recent results and the manager: "First of all I want to say it is nothing about the manager. We take responsibility for the performances. The manager puts the plan out and we try and execute it. I am not going down that route about the manager, I would never do that. It is us players that have to take responsibility on the pitch. Now we have to regroup, put performances in and start winning games for ourselves most importantly and the supporters and the club and for the manager most importantly as well."

Clearly things aren’t good enough currently, but for me Eddie Howe is not under pressure.

The signings in the summer, apart from Malick Thiaw, have not been good enough and hit anything like top form. They simply haven't justified the money that was spent on them as yet and that has hindered Howe.

Like any manager, things need to get better and they need to turn a corner, but in terms of him losing his job, absolutely not.
