HAMBURG ALMOST RESCUE A POINT AT THE DEATH.

In the 98th minute, a cross into the box is headed back across and on loan Tottenham defender Luka Vušković has two attempts at goal from from close range, but can't make the net bulge.

His first shot saved by a rushing Janis Blaswich before the Croatian centre-half's rebound header bounces agonisingly off the top of the bar and out of play.

Vušković's frustration comes to a boil, as the Hamburg defender proceeds to repeatedly kick the post in anger. A dramatic, emotional end to this game.

And just as I say that, Hamburg almost got themselves level. The ball is played long and substitute Otto Stange gets the second ball before driving into the box.

He takes a shot with the outside of his right foot, poking the ball towards goal but Janis Blaswich is quick to react to make the save.

Six minutes of time added on to the end of this game. You'd expect Leverkusen to hold on here. Hamburg haven't had a sniff since the visitors took the lead, so an equaliser looks extremely unlikely.

Bayer Leverkusen picking up right where they left off in the first half as a golden opportunity falls to an unlikely source.

Aleix Garcia curls in a cross and centre back Edmond Tapsoba somehow manages to sneak into the box for a free header, which ends up straight at Hamburg goalkeeper Daniel Heuer Fernandes to save.

Hamburg respond with a chance of their own not long after, as Nicolai Remberg pounces on a loose ball in the box to fire an effort toward goal, which Janis Blaswich gets down low to save.

The first half ends goalless. A lot of patient play going forward from Leverkusen and it's reflected in the match stats, with the visitors having the majority of possession and considerably more shots towards goal.

Martin Terrier's brilliant side foot volley off the bar was the pick of the chances in the opening 45 minutes. Will Bayer Leverkusen be able to break the deadlock in the second half, or can Hamburg continue to absorb the pressure in the hopes of shocking the visitors on the counter?

It's time for a special Wednesday night edition of Bundesliga action.

This game was originally set to be played on Tuesday 13th January but was postponed due to weather-related risks, as snow and ice had gathered on the Volksparkstadion roof.

Bayer Leverkusen look to put themselves back in Champions League contention as they travel to relegation fighting Hamburger SV.

This fixture has been played out 82 times, with Leverkusen winning this matchup 32 times and Hamburg winning it 30. Despite how close it is looking back through history; HSV have only won one of the last six meetings. It’s also the first time these two sides will meet since the 2017/18 season that saw Leverkusen win both home and away.

Hamburg’s Fabio Vieira will be looking to continue his fine goalscoring form. The Portuguese midfielder on loan from Arsenal scored again in Sunday’s 2-1 loss to RB Leipzig, and despite only having four goals all season, three of those have come in his last five appearances.

Jarell Quansah has scored in both his last two starts for Bayer Leverkusen. The former Liverpool centre-back has also featured in five of the Bundesliga side’s six clean sheets this season and will be looking for his and Leverkusen’s first away clean sheet of the season in Hamburg.

Hamburger SV are in a good run of form despite losing last time out to RB Leipzig. They have only lost one of their last seven matches, which includes a 2-2 draw at home to Bayern Munich and wins against Union Berlin and Heidenheim, two sides also trying to avoid relegation.Hamburg have also been very strong at home this season, winning 19 of their 26 points at the Volksparkstadion. They have also made life tough for some of the league’s biggest sides traveling to Hamburg, beating Stuttgart and taking a point from Borussia Dortmund, Eintracht Frankfurt and Bayern Munich. They will be confident they can repeat this good home form on Wednesday night.

Bayer Leverkusen are also in some good form on paper, having only lost one of their last six Bundesliga matches. However, they have only won three of their seven league matches since the start of 2026 and will be looking to push further up the table.Currently, Leverkusen sit in sixth, 12 points behind second placed Borussia Dortmund and 23 behind league leaders Bayern Munich, positions they finished in their two full seasons under former coach Xabi Alonso. A win in Hamburg on Wednesday would mean there’s only three points between them and the top four.
