"When Hearts went ahead, we had to show some character and we did that in abundance. The subs came on and improved us, made us more solid and caused them problems.

"We have to hit these heights every week. Where we end up at the end of the season is where we deserve to be.

"We have to go again and do it next week. It's the most difficult thing in football, to have consistency, but we need to show it now."

Hearts head coach Derek McInnes tells BBC Scotland: "I'm more disappointed than anything. We'd done so much to get ourselves in front and we needed to enjoy being in front a bit more.

"We felt the goal was coming. When we were good, we were very good, we were polished, connected well, looked after it well. At times, we looked like a team at the top of the league.

"But there were too many moments where we were sloppy, anxious in our defending, the gaps were too big between us.

"Livingston set up in a counter-attacking shape, they're all about transitions. The second goal is a ridiculous goal to lose and we're disappointed with that.

"At 2-1, they were struggling to cope and we missed the chance to hammer home that authority, we missed the opportunity to stay in control.

"We need to remember we are still top of the league. I'm trying to keep myself in check with that. We have to be honest and say the point is all we deserved and it might be really important come the end of the season."

Daizen Maeda forces a mistake in the centre circle and Tomas Cvancara breaks clear of the Dundee defence to fire a shot beyond advancing goalkeeper Jon McCracken, but it strikes the base of the post and the home defence are able to clear.

A couple of tidy turns from Tony Yogane near halfway gives the home fans something to cheer but the move ends with a shot fired high into the stand by Cam Congreve.

Celtic slice Dundee open through the middle of the pitch but Daizen Maeda is stretching to reach the final ball from Benjamin Nygren and can only shoot straight at Jon McCracken, who uses a foot to make the save.

It just needs a touch for a second Celtic goal after good work from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, but the sliding pair of Yang Hyun-Jun and Daizen Maeda can't quite reach Benjamin Nygren's teasing cross.

It's just not happening for Dundee yet as a pass from Ethan Hamilton rolls straight out of play.
