Gateshead defender Callum Johnson has retired from professional football at the age of 29.

Johnson has called time on his career after suffering a succession of muscle injuries in the last two-and-a-half years.

The former Accrington Stanley and Portsmouth player made nearly 300 senior appearances, but managed only 11 for Gateshead this season, the last one coming in November.
