Tidemark
Edinburgh Fringe Experience 2004
Monday 9 August 2004
Delicates
and Smoke had its first Fringe Review today in the Scotsman.
Apart from one or two points, it was a very favourable review. The
gist of it goes:
"This
solid, thoughtful and uncomfortable double bill of monologues comes
from a writer to watch."
Excellent!
So far so good. BBC commission here I come! It continues
"Scot
Rosemary Goodman has a morbid fascination with buried obsessions
and psychoses."
Hang
on, did he say "Scot Rosemary Goodman"?
Rosemary
Goodman directed Delicates for Tidemark but the reviewer
has misread his programme and gives the credit for writing and performing
the monologue to Rose and not to me!
Great!
Just what every aspiring writer/performer needs, the credit for
their hard work being given to another.
But
every cloud has a silver lining. He did, after all call Rose (me)
a Scot, which clearly means that my accent was pretty good since
I am Brummie born and bred. So thats a compliment then isnt
it - that my accent was good enough to convince him that I was actually
Scottish?
There
were some more compliments to be had as well.
"She
(me) has a deft touch and her pieces weave themselves into tight
conclusions, which roll uncomfortably into double meaning
"Delicates
in which Goodman (Russell) also stars, whirls along like a danse
macabre on a Glasgow scheme."
Naturally
we got straight onto the Scotsman to correct their error and they
have promised to correct it on their website, but its a bit
of a shame, isnt it?
Rebecca
will be reporting on Tidemark's experiences throughout this year's
Festival. Come back to see how she's doing!
