Wales hooker Brodie Coghlan aims to "take the next step" with Dragons after signing a new two-year contract.

Coghlan made his debut for the Rodney Parade club in December 2022 and has established himself in the side over the past two seasons while Elliot Dee has suffered injury misfortune.

The 25-year-old from Newport's displays earned a first Wales call-up in the autumn and he made his international debut off the bench against New Zealand before also facing South Africa.

"Brodie has always displayed a tough, confrontational edge and physical style of play, while also significantly improving his accuracy around set-piece," said forwards coach Sam Hobbs.

"Having had a taste of international rugby in the autumn, we know how motivated Brodie is to gain further experiences and success at Dragons."

Coghlan has been a key figure in a much-improved season for Filo Tiatia's side and brought up a half-century of appearances for the club against Lions in Johannesburg last weekend.

He missed out on the Six Nations, when Dewi Lake was backed up by Liam Belcher and fit-again Ryan Elias, but aims to keep pushing for selection.

"I'm now looking forward to the next step in my career, pushing myself to keep getting better and learning in any way I can," he said.

"I've seen how much we have grown and developed, you can see the direction we are going in as a team, and I have no doubt that we are going to keep growing and getting better as a group."

Coghlan follows co-captain Angus O'Brien in agreeing new terms while the Dragons have confirmed the first of their summer signings in Tonga wing Anzelo Tuitavuki.
