Richard O'Donnell has been rewarded with a new one-year Derby County deal after stepping up as the Rams' go-to goalkeeper for the remainder of the season.

The 37-year-old is Derby's last remaining senior goalkeeper available, with first-choice Jacob Widell Zetterstrom missing because of prolonged illness while his back-up Josh Vickers is out injured.

O'Donnell stepped back up to Championship level with Derby this season after leaving League One side Blackpool.

When he made his Rams debut in January, he had gone almost nine years between appearances in the second tier.

Rams boss John Eustace last week said he has "full confidence" in O'Donnell to see out the season, with the keeping racking up almost 500 professional appearances in a career with 16 different clubs.

He played a crucial role in helping Derby to a 1-0 victory at Portsmouth on Monday and has now had a clause activated to stay at Pride Park until the end of the 2026-27.

"From the moment I signed, I thought this is the place I want to be and I want to be here for longer," O'Donnell told the club website., external
