Guernsey FC's chase of the top two in the Southern Combination Premier Division took a hit as they lost 3-0 at Eastbourne United.
The defeat - just the Green Lions' second in their past 13 games - sees them drop to fourth in the division with six games to play.
Travel delays for the islanders forced the game to be put back by 15 minutes, but it did not stop Guernsey making a fast start as Sam Murray headed against the bar and Ben Solway went close in the opening 10 minutes.
Fin Du Port also had a chance for the Green Lions in a goalless first half before Will Fazakerley saw a header cleared off the line eight minutes after the break.
Having had their midweek game at Midhurst and Easebourne abandoned while 4-1 up, Guernsey knew they needed a win to keep up the pressure on the top two in the league.
But they went behind in the 64th minute when Charlie Ball took advantage of a defensive error.
Seven minutes later Ball doubled his and Eastbourne's tally when he fired into the roof of the net after Joe Overy's shot was saved.
T'yano Wilson got the third in the seventh minute of stoppage time having had a good chance saved by Josh Addison just before.
"It wasn't our finest day if I'm honest," Guernsey manager Tony Vance told BBC Radio Guernsey.
"Their tactics were to nick a 1-0 probably and try and control us with their tactics in terms of slowing the game down, and we weren't good enough.
"But you've got to take it on the chin as we weren't good enough, as simple as that.
"We should be beating these teams, but we didn't turn really and technically we were really poor."
