Neil Warnock is still awaiting his first win as caretaker manager of Torquay United after his side were beaten 3-0 at Ebbsfleet United.

The defeat extended the Gulls' winless run to seven games and sees them slip to sixth in National League South - they had been three points clear at the top before their slump in form that cost Paul Wotton his job as manager.

Warnock, who led the Gulls in their 2-2 draw with Farnborough on Tuesday, felt his side did not have the quality to deserve getting anything from the game.

"I think the lads give everything, I just think we weren't good enough today," he told BBC Radio Devon.

"They were better than us on the day, but there's crucial incidents in the game as well which you can't get away from.

"I thought the effort was super, it wasn't the effort at all. We haven't got a lot of choice, we've got one or two knocks as well in the team, but I can't fault the effort, just not good enough today."

Dominic Samuel gave the hosts a 31st-minute lead before Kwesi Appiah doubled the advantage 13 minutes into the second half.

Matt Worthington was given a straight red card 10 minutes later after a challenge on Jake Hessenthaler before Marcus Wylie made the game safe nine minutes from full-time.

"You look at the goals, they were bad goals, weren't they?" added Warnock.

"The first goal, dearie me, and I thought if we could get in at 1-0 again I thought we could do well the second half - I was just going to make the substitution and they scored the second.

"So I was disappointed not to have a 15-20 minute go with the change that we were going to make."
