Sang enjoying final games after Salop's 'brutal' start

Shrewsbury Town midfielder Tom Sang says the latter stages of the season have been "really enjoyable" considering their "brutal" start to the campaign.

The 1-0 win over Oldham 10 days ago secured Salop's League Two status for next term after being only two points above the relegation zone in late January.

New head coach Gavin Cowan came in and steered the club away from trouble with a run of six wins in his first nine games.

Saturday's draw against Crawley Town kept Shrewsbury 12 points clear of the bottom two.

"The start was brutal to be honest," Sang told BBC Radio Shropshire.

"It was really tough and I think for someone like myself, I've got ambition to go on and it's disappointing to have another season where you don't go up.

"But I think since the gaffer has come in it's been class for us."

Sang said the key to Cowan's impact has been his consistency and clarity - whatever the result.

"He [Cowan] and the staff have come in and set the bar really high.

"When we've had those five wins [in a row], nothing changed. It wasn't like, 'oh, we're winning' - it just stays the same.

"I think it's good for lads to know where you need to be, to be successful, and where you need to get to.

"All our lads have really bought into it and you can see that in the results."

Sang, who made his return after two weeks out with a hamstring injury at half-time against Crawley, said he is aiming to finish the campaign strongly.

"I haven't set plans every single day. I'm trying to win constantly. So it's been a really enjoyable end [to the season]. It's positive.

"We're going for maximum points, treating every game the same and just keeping our standards really high, especially going into next season."
